I think what malmo was trying to say in this regard is: don't hate the player, hate the game.
I think the winged foot is very cool looking and am getting one of the window stickers. But I have a question about it. What is the viewpoint of the foot. Is it from the inside (arch side) or the outside. To me it looks like the arch side, but why would the wing be on that side, it would extremely hinder one's running. Maybe if someoone actually knows Fam they could ask, I'm probably just not seeing it correctly.
Hate to say it, but I lost a lot of respect for the guy on this one. The images portrayed are certainly great for high schoolers, but he is not a high schooler. He does however come across as quite young and lacking in maturity for his age and accomplishments.
It's dissapointing for me. You would expect one is his position to have more class. I'm so glad Bob Kennedy or Meb never came out with garbage like this. It would be awesome to have classy documentary on either of them. All you really need is some interviews, racing and training footage to fire people up if you are truly accomplished. Even if you're marketing towards high schoolers.
Someone commented on the Pre videos in comparison to Fam's. Two things.
A) Pre didn't self produce the videos.
B) Pre owned 6 American records, 3 NCAA cross country championships, a 4th place finish in the olympics. etc.
Fam has done....?
I think you get the picture.
Until you have reached an elite level, you know, making it to the Olympic games, and have had to train without the benefit of much financial support (living off of cereal and the such) to get there, please withhold comment. It is a tough road and you do what you have to do to keep yourself going, especially when no one else is being a great help.
Fam is a great guy and does have much class. Those who say he lacks class and are disappointed in him obviously don't know him.
By the way "Get some,' what have you done ....? Nothing, I suspect.
I'm so sick of retards on this board.
Fam is an athlete, he has fans, so he promotes himself and the sport. The video reveals his passion for running, and is meant to ignite the same kind of passion in each one of us. People talk about the lack of exposure of running and when a guy actually plays himself off like an athlete with fans, you bash him. This is not meant to be a super serious documentary, anyone who watches it will know that. So don't bash the guy for having his head in the clouds. Fam is a sports personality, his fans should buy the dvd, that's how it works in every sport. That's why you have jerseys of different players, you have books, tv specials, articles, etc...
Tony Hawk is the best skateboarder in the world, but is he the only skater in videos? No, skateboarding has thrived off of these increasingly impressive videos, drawing in a larger audience, more participants and more money. Not to mention that skateboarding has become much much cooler than running. So are you criticizing what has happened for skateboarding and BMX? No, because you are a puny running nerd to busy hating to contribute anything to help the sport of running. Running should be grassroots, stylish and exciting, not stale and elitist.

Good analogy with Tony Hawk!
Fam is not the number 1 runner out there but the guy is a “professional” runner. This is probably a financial sacrifice as I am sure he could be making more $$ doing something else but he continues running because of his passion. You combine this with his charisma and business sense and presto. He can now make a little more cash and continue doing what he loves. Good for you Fam!. I would do the same thing.
I am sure that due to Fam’s video we may be seeing others doing the same in the future.
Sorry man, my opinion is still based on how I feel. I lost respect imediately after seeing this stuff. The great runners do not try to be skateboarders or snowboarders, or football players. It is not inspiring for me to see a runner with a skateboarder attitude. That was just like me and my friends in high school. We all outgrew it after a few years of college.
It all seems pretty arrogant for one with those accomplishments when relatively speaking he's in the shadow of giants. He's a very good runner who hopefully keeps going forward.
I'm not doubting that he has a following, but so did Marilyn Manson.
Here we have someone who may not be a record holder. He may not be an olympian yet but.... here is something that kids can buy that they can use to promote the sport. This is exactly why our sport has no publicity. We down each other all the time. You guys don't have to buy his video, posters, etc. We all know that there are badasses out there who can smoke him. There's posters, jerseys, stickers, etc of every major sport out there. Some of the jerseys kids buy are for guys who are just like Fam., not the best but pretty good. No one here has to promote it or buy.

your argument holds no validity. sponsors and company's that the skaters have contracts with put out the videos. those company record the footage, edit it, and sell it, and make alot more money than the skaters do off of it. the skaters do not shoot the videos and do it themselves, unless they are the owner of the company, in which case it still doesnt happen 99.9% of the time.
also, to the person talking about living off of "cereal" and all that bull, FAM lives in NY, a very expensive state, and runs professionally. he doesnt live off cereal. he probably eats alot better than i do as a poor struggling collegiate runner.

I've lost respect of running 'fans' after reading this thread.

Lincoln sure could -- but he hasn't.
http://www.marykateandashley.com/I have no idea what talents those two girls have, nor do I understand who or why anyone pays them for their products or services? They are self-made billionaires (or a few years of compound interest short) because someone marketed them. Good for them.
Good one for Famiglietti for making the DVD. Good one for Lincoln to direct his efforts elsewhere.
I really wish I could just force reasoning as sound as this down everyone's throat here. It's hard to believe that a gang of people have been incited to say that one of the 5 best American steeplers of the last 10 or 15 years is a loser and a chump. It's not like if Fam retires without having won a world or olympic medal he'll say "well, i made that dvd, which was even better." he'll probably just say "i had a great career and i offered a creative perspective on the sport i love. can't win 'em all, though." unless you've been forced to buy fam's dvd, chill out.
Could you imagine if every decent runner came out with a DVD like Fam's !!......Getting these in the hands of young runners across the nation could do nothing but help our sport and to help fill the empty track stadiums that we see today. Young runners could get some new heros in their lives.
Its a Win-Win for our sport.
Embrace it !!
Famiglietti's PR's are better than any of Pre's times in any event with the exception of the 5k. I'm sure he will get that next year as well.
He ran a 27:37 (in his first attempt at the 10k) and ran a 3:35 1500 in the same season. That has never been done before by an American. Runner up or 1st place ranking in the U.S steeple rankings for 4+ years. His times are better than most past NCAA champs or us champions in his events.
He's a front runner which=lack of titles. Title holders sit and kick.
There is no question about his ability.
You couldn't hold fam's spikes.
I saw the preview on youtube.com and thought it was a big joke. Never would I pay to see it. But would still like to see it ,if for nothing else than to laugh at how ridiculous Fam is. A guy like Bekele would watch it and laugh at how he ran faster when he was 16. Just like a guy like Fam would laugh at me because he ran faster than me when he was 16. Also, of course WEJO is going to endorse a product that is on the front page. He is getting paid something for advertising it.
I'd rather see Fam in a movie than Dean.
Fam did make the olympic team, 2004. Already accomplished. Running 27:37, 3:35 1500, 8:17 steeple, and 3:55 is not chump change. Some of the guys that you are referring to as being so great have not ran those times.
his movie shows he is human and makes his success seem attainable. great workouts, great training does not always translate into world record times. you can be fit, you can be ready to rock, and it is not your day.
and the reference to skateboarding. reality check for everyone, no one cares about running, so at least fam is attempting to make people care and his encouragement to all of us pre-orders was to go out and make videos and get people talking about the sport. that is what skateboarding videos did. they brought excitement and reality. if your core audience cannot see it on tv, you've got to bring it to them.
so even though your thread is negative, it gets people talking, and even if his video disappoints you, you have probably encouraged another 20 people to buy it. So I am sure fam 'thanks' you.

Well, the fact is he still hasn't got it. Jesus, Pre ran those times over 30 years ago. Tracks have changed, training equipment has changed, nutrition and knowlege of it has changed, race formats have changed.........all to allow todays athletes to run faster.
If the boys running in the 70's were running in today's conditions, you can bet they would be running faster times.
You can't compare a person who has won one national championship and is 8 seconds away from the AR in a 3k distance (his specialty) to a person who has done this:
In 1975, coming off first place individual finishes in 3 NCAA Cross Country Championships and 4 straight NCAA Track & Field Championships, Pre held the American record in every event over a mile: 2000m, 3000m, 2-mile, 3-mile, 10000m, and 6-mile. All this at the young age of 24.
"He's a front runner which=lack of titles. Title holders sit and kick."
Ironic that you say this, because Pre was a famous front runner and an obvious title holder.
I am not bashing on Fam, I am just trying to put him into perspective for those posters here that are wearing skewed lenses.
I think it's good Fam is making a DVD, why the hell not? Every other pro athlete in other sports has stuff out there what's wrong w/ runners doing it?
Go Fam.
