Hey there Stover, I talked to Welsh on the phone soon after his race. Sounds like he ran well, but had some problems at around mile 22.5. I've started back running late last winter and it's pretty slow coming back after taking almost 2 years easy. I'm training for a marathon in the Fall, and actually starting to come around a bit. Have you talked to Stevie G? I talked to him a while back after he got back, but not since. Good luck with your training.
JT I haven't heard anything about Steve G. our Nate. Have you heard from them? do you know if they are still training/racing? I should give dave a call this weekend.
I think it's cool you are getting back into running, I took a year off after I graduated :) Welsh and Gurin are good to talk to about marathon training. Have fun putting the miles in.

And you know.....nothin about track?? There was no 410 miler let into pre. If you knew anything about Mcgrath....where he was from....or The Pre meet at all you wuold understand why he was choosen.

He married a friend of mine, I didn't know him back then. He's a nice guy, still gets out and gets some running in. Has not broken 4 or come very close, and I do not believe he has any plans to attempt it. I don't think after this post from 2003 he attempted to make a serious push at really hard training, more like halfway serious training and some random road races and a marathon or two. He has some respectable, but definitely not equivalent to sub 4 mile, results from 03 to 09 or so.

Gerard Donakowski ran 3:59 for the mile for the first time at age 33 at a meet in 1992 at Northeastern University. He was a two time US champ at 10.000 in 1986 and 87.

Years later, we would all realize it would not be the last. This was before extreme time lapse bumping was in vogue.
Austrian self-coached runner Raphael Pallitsch has had his break through in 1500m at the age of 32, when he ran a 3:40,49. He also ran a 3:57,22 mile a year later, at 33.
His PB in 1500m now is 3:36 and he's 34.
