First mile was in PE class freshman year - 545. Broke some hokey PE record and stuck with it.

Mile, summer track. No training. 6 something, maybe 6:38. Eventually drove my PR down to a blazing 5:02.
My race was the 1994 Bradford 5k, if memory serves I 'ran' 26:33. I did a lot of walking during the second mile, and hammered the pace back down to 'stumble' for the race's latter stages, to save face. I was 9.
It was fifth grade mile at the catholic city meet. I got second with a good time of 615. I remember dieing in the last lap because of running so fast the first half.

damn, I think you out-leaned me in that one .....
Summer, 1979 - Zionsville, IN 4 miler, 24:21 for this then 14 yr. old runner.

I ran those races but not as a child. James thurston put on many events like that around the town. My first was a 220YARD dash in 1967. Time was low 23's. Now look at me.
Freshmen Girls Mile...hysterical...I stomped on the finish line when I was done, as I had no clue what I was doing and thought I had to step on the line. The best part has to be the outfit...white spandex under 'short' navy shorts, a tee shirt under my singlet...plus my coach taped both my shins -- at least I won.
The JV heat of the 100m freshman year in a dual meet against a school for deaf kids...I got dead last & they couldn't even hear the gun.
Freshman year 5k XC: 20:06....18:13 2 monthes later.

it was a thanksgiving 10k called "shake your tailfeathers"..i was 14 and ran 45:40 on 3 miles of training. it hurt.
My first race on a track was 1994 when I was a sophomore and I ran the 1600. My coach told me to just pace off one of my teammates I had been working out with for 2 months prior, who was a junior. I rememember i got 4th in race with a time of 5:11.
My first non track race was in August of 1994, and since our team went to this race every year for a time trial. It was a 5 mile race, and I was in school. I thought I was never going to finish the race. Of course once again, I had no clue about pace and my coach told me to stay with another teammate, who was the best on the team, ( I got better than the previous guy). By 3 miles running by myself in the summer heat. I finsihed the race just under 30 min, and do not remember the last 1/2 mile and woke up from passing out in the medical tent. Everyone around me was laughing because i was talking about dancing bears (kinda like the greatful dead bears) and I was trying to catch flies I was seeing. Needless to say I was very dehydrated and ran a little hard, but at least I didn't leave anything out on the course.
I ran my first as a junior, off 2 weeks of training, and ended up having to borrow a teammates extra running shoes because I didn't own a pair. I think that I walked a third of the 3 mile course and ended up getting dead last in ~ 21 minutes. The course was really flat. I would pretend to neal down and tie my shoes, in conjunction with the walk breaks. I was really good.
bump!
4th grade field day - 600 yard run and 50 yard dash.
Kicked the 6th graders ass and won 2 blue ribbons.
7th grade, a 2 mile XC race. I had never run before, so I sprinted out and ran with the leaders for the first 400, then died the rest of the race, never passing another runner. I don't remember the time, because I didn't think that stuff was all that important at the moment.
Freshman Year of High School in 1998. We had a team time trial at our cross country course. 3800 meters I ran 14:51. My last race of that season was on the same course and I ran 12:07.
1992 NYRRC Mini Marathon PeeWee race; I won it. Not a bad way to start my career.
Fall of 1997. I had no actual running training under my belt, but I did play soccer for many years and was playing for the high school team at the sophomore level. I was coerced into running a 5k road race.
Went out with the leaders in 5:09 at the mile (hard as hell from the gun) and slowly faded to about 11:00 at the 2mile and finished up at 17:39 for the 5k.
Hard and painful way to run it, but the free food kicked ass after the race.
My first race evere was a mile in shitty indoor track, i got second, ran 5:11. By running a 5:11 mile in your first try with a couple of weeks of running does that mean i have some talent that i havent developed? (im only a 4:25 miler now, 3 years later many injuries, havent been able to run for more than 7 months without having to take a few weeks to a month off) What do ya'll think?
