Regarding how fast is Michigan's #4-in the same meet, they had a true freshman run 3:40 and 2 others run 3:41. Assuming that they run Penn, they should definitely make some noise especially with McFarland's kick anchoring them.
Could be interesting if Langon is kept close enough, has also run 3:33.x and Anchored Indoor DMR in 3:50.x
It won’t be close. McFarland will smoke Langon. Michigan will runaway away from Nova on the 1200.
Birnbaum just ran 3:31. Top 25 in ncaa will likely be under 3:38 this year. People need to recalibrate what fast is. The 1500/mile is 4sec faster than it was 2020 and before. Longer races are 5sec/mi faster. Whether it is shoes, training, drugs, pandemic, whatever, the times that used to mean "fast" are not anymore.
No offense but we have randoms running 3:34 now as sophomores. Cole Hocker’s PB in college before the trials was 3:35. I just don’t see how the world records in the 1500m and the mile aren’t going to be broken soon. We’re going to see more American men under 3:30.
