Makes him #2 All-Time behind Liam Murphy’s (Villanova) 3:33:02. This kid the new Ethan Strand? His teammate went 3:34.06 to bump Parker Wolfe out of the Top 10.

Great race by McFarland !!!!!!
BTW, Gary Martin ran 3:32.03 last July at US Nats.
Pretty insane. Only April as well and he is a true junior. The rest of this season is going to be something special.
And young for his grade, turns 21 in June. We have another big prospect in the 1500, feels like a never-ending assembly line now.
Not young, 6 months older than I was in same grade, he turned 17 before senior year of HS, before people started holding kids back with regularity, that was a completely normal aged going into Senior year of HS guy.
Regarding how fast is Michigan's #4-in the same meet, they had a true freshman run 3:40 and 2 others run 3:41. Assuming that they run Penn, they should definitely make some noise especially with McFarland's kick anchoring them.

How the F can this be downvoted? LOL, it's factual, not an opinion, even. Anybody who is held back but Turned 17 before their Senior Year , is not young. By today's practice of holding kids back who were born before 9/1-9/10 of what should be their Kindergarten year, it may seem so, but a normal college Graduation one month before you turn 22 is hardly young.

Could be interesting if Langon is kept close enough, has also run 3:33.x and Anchored Indoor DMR in 3:50.x

In the year 2026, many kids with April or later birthdays get held back even with September being the typical cutoff. Yes in the past this wouldn’t be notable.
australians get one good runner ever and get a big head
Someone doesn’t know their history.
Not talking about history. We are discussing the present state of affairs. Everyone just please take a deep breath and let's all enjoy how enjoyable it is to be able to watch fast 1500/miles.
"How ... can this be downvoted?" Open a new tab and search "usual birthday cutoff for grade 12". The answer you find has been established in the US for over 30 years. You already knew the answer but decide dishonestly to play ignorant; hence the downvotes.
Here is my counter-claim in three parts. Feel free to express your disagreement with any of these:
1) In recent times, someone in the US born in June and assigned to the usual grade is younger than most of the people in the same grade.
2) Thoughtsleader did not mean that McFarland is ahead one academic year, but that McFarland is younger than most of the people in the same grade.
3) You already knew that your experience of beginning 12th grade at age 16 is not the norm in the US today.
