This thread was initially titled Hoey OUT for Wanamaker Mile but we changed to make it more descriptive. We heard he tweaked his hamstring during the WR attempt.
1) Mentally it could be a huge letdown. 2) If he's not 100% why push it? 3) Maybe he'll consider world indoors or more races but if he's not 100%, that seems unlikely.
He fired the Millrose Games. He'll announce a new track meet soon. By the end of the year he may hire and fire a few more meets before deciding to just hold his own meet.
What I'm 99% hearing is that it's precautionary for a minor hamstring tweak. Further updates to come.
I head the same thing.
Hoey 100% needs to try to run USA indoors and Worlds. Crazy to me that a guy with as little tactical experience as him wouldn't do it.
I don't want him to be a modern day version of Alan Webb.
Anyone know where he's been training? Where do you train in the US in January where you aren't taking some chance by running fast enough to run 1:42.50.
Like it's either too cold to be running that fast if you are training outdoors or it's problematic if you are doing it on tight turns indoors.
Occam's razor, folks. He has basically had one long, continuous season since not qualifying for the 800m US team in Paris '24 with little to show for it in terms of results. He finally achieved something notable with all that fitness (WR). Sounds like an excellent time to take a step back and recover.

He was training in Flagstaff in the fall. Maybe he went down to Phoenix for the winter.
I don't think running USA indoors or Worlds would help his tactics for outdoors. He would just front run those indoor races like he did last year. That's not going to prepare him for doing battle with Wanyonyi and Arop outdoors.
