As an 800 guy who’s still trying to pop a 1:44, holy hell was that great to watch. Looked like he could run another lap at that pace. Haven’t seen someone since 2019 DB look like they’re on cruise control and it be so fast!
The U20 indoor WR is 1:44.35. I don't know how many fast 800s he'll be in this indoor season, but it's his if he really wants it. He just needs to get into a super fast race with the top guys.

Would love to see him run a mile sometime this indoor season. Seems unlikely though, him and his team are VERY deliberate about racing (which is good!). Last year he opened up in 1:50 and then ran 1:46 a week later. I think we're in for something very special at Milrose.

If he had a pacer through 600 meters, he would’ve gotten close. That was an outstanding opener.
Anyone know if he is planning to run the world championships this year, because that is quite far off and will probably necessitate two peaks? Lutkenhaus seems poised to prove that last year was no fluke.

DB never looked that controlled in an 800, even at his best. No head bobbing, no stiffening of shoulders and stride. DB, Hoppel, none of our best look like or have looked like that at 800. Donnie should have moved up to 1500 after that 3:35 back when. That’s when he looked really great. Oh well.

Two peaks? For world indoors?
No.
World Indoors are March 20-22. A 2-month season doesn't require two peaks.
I really think Hoey needs to go to USAs. Even if he gets the WR today, I'm not sure he's beating Cooper at USAs.
Cooper will easily break 1:44.35 this year indoors . He shouldn't be focused on junior records however. Those are beneath him.

Agree with everything you said. I meant outdoors, since he stretched his season that long last year. He will get the 1:44.35 record, but it also shouldn’t be the focus. Agreed.

So, from the mixed zone convo that is the goal but he’s taking it one step at a time. Yes he’s planning on USAs and his goal is to stay healthy through then. This years unusually stacked for a USAs probably with potentially Brazier, Hoppel and Hoey with only 2 spots. But I get the vibe the only reason he’s not saying “yes, absolutely” is he wants to make sure he’s not getting ahead of himself. Tough team to make vs guys he respects and looks up to.

Thr Donnie nut-huggers down voting you for that is weird. Cooper is very smooth through all parts of his race like Kipketer who would remain smooth to the finish too. Donnie, Bryce, Hoey and the rest really look tight over the last 100 when they race. Outdoor Nats are gonna be fun to watch.

Pretty sure the down votes are for the stupid view he should have gone to the 1500. As if that would have been better for his injuries and the world champion wasn't a true 800.runner. sure. He doesn't really Bob his head though, what you're seeing is the recoil from massive force put into the ground.

There is no world outdoor championships this year. There's a separate new thing, but no world champs. That's why rojo assumed you meant indoors
