Why do criminals wear face masks?

Why don’t judges or prosecutors wear masks to hide their identity?

Some are - one of them we know is a murderer. But they wear face masks for the same reason as criminals do, to avoid being caught and made accountable for what they do. If they had the support of the American people would they be wearing masks? Did ICE under Obama wear them? It is significant that law enforcement don't wear masks. But they aren't seeking to evade accountability.

The left doesn’t want to see their faces for accountability. They want to see their faces for doxxing purposes so that they can intimidate them and threaten their families. These groups use facial recognition software and other tactics to this end.

There are people who overreact and are overemotional. Some are unhinged. The administration is doing something unpopular. From that standpoint, it would be reasonable to think that agents might take measures to protect themselves from doxxing. Of course, the administration could do much more to try to go about its business in a way that would reduce tensions and lessen the number of people who overreact or are likely to become violent. There are lots of ways to be strong and to do the job well that involve less goading them on. I would compare the current situation less to ICE under Obama (different time with even lower degrees of animosity) than to what we’d see right now if DeSantis were president. You might very well have masks on the agents. I bet you’d also see much more discipline and professional conduct in an agency that would be more about getting the job done than about flexing muscle at the whims of the administration.

Why not judges? Judges tend to go about a portion of their professional lives with a measure of security in place. When they face threats, their protection is increased. There are threats against ICE. You gonna have additional security for every ICE agent and their families? Whether you approve of what ICE is doing now or not, it’s not terribly unreasonable to have them masked. Of course, it is very bad optics, but that’s a little hard to avoid. I would try to counteract any bad optics by, again, working incredibly hard to be disciplined in messaging and trying to gain the trust of as many Americans as possible by preaching restraint and by-the-book enforcement. You can’t avoid crazies entirely, but you can keep them from gaining allies and you can refrain from provoking them. This administration is much more interested in fomenting chaos and escalating tensions than in quelling civil discord.

But why dox ICE agents only and not police, judges and prosecutors?

Both a number of people in the administration and a number of lefty agitators are absolutely convinced that they themselves are right and that the other guys are totally in the wrong. In that frame of mind, they can justify almost any action from their “side.” Nobody really wins in that scenario. That’s why real leadership and real, earnest civil life are important, but we live in an America with a Troll in Chief and a ton of trolls (across the political spectrum) who see various troll-like activities as the way they should live their lives among their fellow citizens. Race to the bottom.

Guys like you act as though you’re about some kind of law and order but fail to acknowledge that leaning into statements like “the left …” just paints with a broad brush in a way that sows discord.

Why do ANTIFA and BLM wear face masks, of they’re just honest folks exercising their first amendment rights? Oh wait, that’s right, they’re not and they’re not…🤣🤡🥸
