he won a pretty big d1 conference in the 5k and 10k but never made track nationals (he had 1 xc appearance)
Military academy so he was already going to serve out of college. He maybe could have made the WCAP program, as some others on his team went on to do that but he was done and ready to move on with life and raise kids.
The wcap program essentially allows athletes who join the military or went to an academy to essentially be professional in a sport, sponsored by the government, and volunteer a few days a month,
I don't need to be too much torn down, as I think my mental state is pretty good after this meet. It is pretty early and I am not peaked in mileage yet and had extended cross season, what should I expect?
This was my first mile of the season and my first time running faster than 4:39.
IMHO you would have been very close with the exact same race and exact same conditions on a 400 meter outdoor track.

Yes dude don't worry. It's January. If you consider the season to go through to the end of May or the start of June, trust me you'll be ok. You have a lot a lot of time to get it done
I know it well since I was in the Army. I am in my late forties so I obviously know your father if he really exists. Army is not in a major conference. And sub 4 was a national qualifying time.

and air force- ever heard of a runner called Sam Gilman? he's on it now.
"Soon, Gilman's teammates will have to carry the Grey Wolf baton without him. That's because he will move to Park City, Utah and train as a member of the Air Force World Class Athlete Program (WCAP) through the summer of 2028"
All you weirdos need to stop obsessing trying to dox a 16yo. Do you even care if the whole story is made up? I don't.
OP: I agree with the people saying you can break 4:20 in outdoors based on running 4:27 this early - that improvement is very common. And sounds like you have a typical male HS performance progression. Just stay consistent, take care of your health, (sleep, nutrition, don't overtrain).
