I think i know the reason the U20 world records for birke haylom, Senayet Getachew and Melknat Wudu have never been ratified. Sometime back i read an article that said kenyan and ethiopian age cheaters often have different birth dates on their social pages than the ones listed on their WA profiles
Seyanet's WA birth date is 2005 but on her facebook its October 1990 and even if you translate from ethiopian calender to the normal one her birth date would be October 1997 and still wont be U20. Melknat Wudu broke the indoor 3000m U20 record also never ratified. Her WA profile lists her born 2005 too but her facebook says born 2nd december 1995. Translating her age also from Ethiopian calender it becomes Dec 2002(Wasnt U20 when she broke that 3000m WR).
Same thing Birke haylom who has since hidden her Birth date but her records have never been ratified. Only one who got away with it was Medina Eisa who was btw Melknat Wudu and Senayet Getachew training mate. So i dont know if that U20 record gets broken at BU it will be ratified since they have not ratified the existing ones
Excited to see Matsatsa in the mile, he’s such a huge talent. Same with Birnbaum in the 3k. I think Sahlman is close to CR shape in the 3k, though I think he’ll need someone to drag him. He’ll have Holt and Prakel, but I’m not sure they’re at the level Wolfe and Strand were last year.
Kinda surprised Martin is going for the 5k, but I guess he’s feeling really confident at longer distances (or wants to do a 5k double at NCAAs). He’s probably the best 3k runner in the NCAA now that Strand and Wolfe are gone. Leo Young is also in it, which surprises me too. After his breakthrough 3:35 last summer, and seeming XC breakthrough, I thought him more likely for the 3k, but I’m excited to see what he can run for 5k now. Lex ran 13:34 in HS so hopefully Leo can dip pretty far into the 13:20s now. If he can drop 2-3s in the 1500m this year, he’ll be a contender.
What do we think is the over/under for the cutoff for making indoor nationals in the 3k and 5k? 7:39/13:15? Faster?
Considering the best class of milers and 3k runners mostly graduated: Parker Wolfe, Ryan Schoppe, Ethan Strand, Adam Spencer, Nathan Green, Matt Strangio, David Mullarkey, Acer Iversin, Yaseen, And Luke Tewalt, Liam Murphy all graduated, I don’t think it will be 7:39 and 1315 I think it’s cyclical. Also Dominic Serum looks injured, so there are a few less candidates than you might think

The idea of this meet is to use xc fitness to knock out the q for ncaa 5000. (or 3000)
Over 75% of q's for 5000 usually come from this one BU race! If you miss the train here, it's difficult to fix it later.
Martin has all Jan/Feb to run mile and dmr and perhaps to jump into a pro 3000. That's why he's running the 5000.
It almost seems unrealistic to expect Jane NOT to break the collegiate 5k record after so clearly exhibiting a leap in fitness this XC season (and having broken 15 already in the spring).
Senayet Getachew ran 14:42.94 at BU in 2024. Anyone know why this one wasn't ratified? Was it the track?
Jane could beat 14:53. 14:42 is probably out of reach and without Lemngole she won't be getting any help.
She most likely didn’t get drug tested after.
Same thing with Josh Kerr in 2022, ran 3:48 for a British record but was never officially ratified by WA due to no drug test, but is recognized by UK athletics as the official record
Who is the last runner who got disqualified after a WR due to a failed drug test?
No quibbles with the runners selected, but I expect Schoppe to PR, several guys to hit 7:35, several women to run 8:45 or quicker and Samuel to finish behind Musau and Martin. Anything btwn 14:49--14:54 from Hedengren wouldn't shock me.
