He's right out of the 70s. No disrespect to those guys that love competition and want to break up winter training but we aren't even in winter yet. Can't comment on doping but I figure he'll be one of those guys good enough to hang around and take a team spot but never get to the top as a medal threat. Chairman of the boards but nobody cares in late summer.
He sure seems to be doing everything in his power to raise suspicion and stir up controversy! Perhaps “arrogant” and “foolhardy” are the best words to describe his approach.

OP is obviously a hater(maybe justifiably so), but Hoey has been exciting to watch, more interesting I think,now that he choked a bit outdoors compared to his dominant indoor campaign this year.
i don’t think he can run 1:12, indoors or out, but a 1:14.low isn’t unimaginable
Agree he is exciting and interesting because he races often, normally front runs at a fast pace (forcing others to run fast also), puts himself out there with max effort and is not afraid to fail.
What proof is there that he needs an extended base phase and/or extended break? He is an 800m runner not a marathoner. He has essentially been on break since the Diamond League Final in August.
My least fav running going for the 600m WR in a week at BU. Wouldn’t be surprised if he runs 1:12 after taking no time off in more ways than one. Thank God rinaldi isn’t associated with this anymore.
Just needs to run a 48.mid 400m then bring it home in 24-flat for the last 200m…
it takes a special runner to run that fast….or someone specialized and focusing on the event for a while.

This isn’t a sick roast. The 600m WR is held by one of the greatest 800m runners all time and the GOAT of the 800m is #2 AT.
I'm rooting for Hoey but it's hard not to worry about him after seeing this and listening to what Rinaldi's been saying about the split. It's just inexplicable that a 26yo who stagnated for years because of his inability to let his body recover is going this hard after he finally breaks through.
I get he wants to compete but he's gonna learn the hard way why nobody tries to stay in WR shape year-round. He may very well get the 600 WR and he may even keep running fast into the outdoor season, but the bill will come due eventually.

It was a surprise split involving a high-profile runner who had a great year, so obviously he was gonna be asked questions about it, and he's given Hoey a lot of praise while being honest that they couldn't agree on key things going forward.
Someone should do a Polymarket on when Hoey leaves his next coach, if he even gets one. He’s like that one girl/guy who sleeps around but you still think “I can fix him…”

What mockery did he make, failing to qualify for indoors because a 16 yo ran 1:42? Or beating his high school PR by 5 seconds after getting his first consistent 18 months of training in?

You see what you want to see I guess, I see it completely different. It is less about what training he does and more about what his dad can allow him to have access to. You have your own track during Covid, you have your own property in Flag to get altitude, you have access to the lactate testing strips which ARE NOT CHEAP. If anything advantage is up for purchase he had it, not like some pros who have small contracts that don't really give them much to work with. The daddy's money thing is just annoying, am I jealous? Absolutely. Josh's story is more about what can dad buy vs I worked hard and had a breakthrough. That's what his story reads like to me. Mind you, THIS IS JUST MY OPINION NOT FACT.
I like this move by Hoey. If he trained and set up his race schedule perfect for the "ultimate championships" next year, he likely still wouldn't win. One can make an argument that a world record is better than winning that meet anyway. He is also giving us something compelling in early December - unlike these cross country guys dropping out of USAs.
