We went to Acola coffee this morning. Fantastic. I got the sweet cinnamon latte. Place is huge and vibrant, lots of students hanging out, socializing, working on laptops.
I’m at Como smoke and fire as we speak. Just finished up a great barbecue lunch. I highly recommend “The Big Texas”.
The plan for the tonight is to head to Logboat Brewery around 8 pm. All are welcome. We are going to eat at Booches before that around 6:30or 7:00. If you want to call me, call 844-LetsRun and hit ext 4
Lawrence is terrible for an NCAA xc meet. Yes the course is unique and great but it's only suitable for 12 team invites or smaller. The access is atrocious. They will never get an NCAA xc meet again because of this. If you were there in 98 or have been to any large HS meet there, you understand.
I'm definitely biased as a Mizzou grad, but I agree. I hate to say it, but Lawrence is a fun town.
Rim Rock is a phenomenal course, but meet management has been on the decline there. A few years ago at Rim Rock they had weather delays at the high school meet and communication was awful. They evacuated athletes to their buses, but only made announcements at the start/finish, which was too far away to hear from the bus lot. There is almost no cell reception out there which made any electronic notification pretty worthless (I don't think they tried that anyways). There were always a bunch of minor issues too...packets not always being ready on time, starting line officials disorganized and hard to hear, spectators would wait 30-60 minutes in line to access parking and then they started splitting JV and V meets over multiple days. We love the course and things used to be more organized, but there are other options for a quality field now with better meet management.
Ku relays is overrated. They are living on past reputation when they used to be just a touch below Drake. That was 20-25 years ago. Now it's a ho hum college meet and slightly above average HS meet. When they went away from the stadium and went to the furthest edge of town, that was the death knell which is a shame.
Columbia and Lawrence are the same thing: mid size college towns that locals and alums think are super hip and artsy. They'll never be anything more than mid size college towns. They're great for 1 weekend a year and nostalgia. There's hundreds of these towns all over the country.
We had a state championshup coach, a coach of a 2025 world championship medallist, a state championship runner up, one of the world’s top shoe designers, an Olympic silver medallist, a top journalist, an 8-year old, yours truly and many more show up.
Thanks for the beverages Jonathan and Robert. We even got to meet the legend Joe Rubio. I downloaded and printed his training manuals a long long time ago!!
