She's only 5'3" to Jane Hedengren 6'1". She can't compete with the doping Kenyans. I think her short height hurt her. She did great in Jr high, HS, College with individual and 3 team titles.
Never seen any top HS girl go on to college and be constantly "injured" then have 1-3 great races, then be injured for several months again. Jenna Hutchins. Cycle repeats Seems like she's been at BYU for a long time too.
"Generational talent" is an extremely overused term. What people usually really mean when they use it is "talented".
This.
Despite all the xc phenoms - Fairchild, Trotter, Baxter, Lane etc it was really Jordan Hasay and Katelyn Tuohy that captured the imagination of the fans.
The key element was they both had long careers, 4 full years at the top in both hs and college. Tuohy even ran 4 x ncaa xc before going pro.
As a pro we really still know very little about Tuohy. 2 slow runs at USATF 5000 don't really mean much. We still get to see how she does for next 10 years.
She's running US xc on December 6, so we get a new data point. Hopefully, she is healthy.
Got popped. Usada sweeped it under the rug as usual. The nation of cheaters. I hope they'll get the well deserved nationwide ban soon. One can only run for so long...

LOL, popped for what? Something that keeps her injured and running slowly?
She hasn't raced often enough, or fast enough as a pro to even be tested.
When people are precocious, we marvel at them and we tend to assume that their trend will continue to shoot upwards.
When people are late-bloomers we don't understand how on earth they could not be better when they were younger.
The truth is simpler and more complex at the same time. They follow a different development path than the one we are used to and we are blind to it until it is plain to see. Time will tell.
Is Grace Ping a generational talent? Heck no even though she holds world records. A generation is 20 years. Tuohy is slower than at least a dozen women of her generation.
It really doesn't matter if she runs again or not. She'll be fine and be successful in the game of life. That's something that a do-nothing wanker loser like you will never be. You got the hate thing going for you, though.
This is the attitude that was predicted of her fans when she stalled out. Prior to that, she would be the best Anerican in history. But now it is that she is happy and the fans attack anyone who points out that they were wrong.
Yes. We correctly predicted that she would never make it as a pro. She is a spoiled kid who started on the injury/sickness excuse train after she got pushed around in a 1500 years ago. She can't take the heat.

That seems reasonable. We have a history here of counting everyone out. Don't make me run the list again.

No, I just find it amusing, and weird, that people perseverate on her.
I'm not a "super fan" of anyone. There are runners that I see that come up and that I would like to see do well. I hope that Tuohy finds her way as a runner but if she doesn't, she'll be fine otherwise. Just the same I would like to see any new and young talent do well as long as they are a good person. Once a professional athlete starts engaging in questionable behavior then they've lost me as a fan or a follower.
It's just really strange that a loser like you would even use an anonymous moniker like "tuohy is a quitter." Get a life. You sound like a little baby.
Can we talk about this like adults? She was suppossed to be a generational talent. Granted, she seemed to be on track to be through high school. Then she did some good stuff in college. But then she just stopped improving. A high school girl ran faster than her lifetime best. She is now an average pro in the US which is a country not overly competitive on the world stage. Did she train too hard too early? Did she dope? Did she gain weight? Did she just develop early? This type of topic comes up regarding females but it always turns into emotional attacks.
I think it's too early to say. She transitioned better to college than most HS phenoms do. Still, college phenoms often struggle as pros at first. Many top college women runners who make it as pros will take 3-5 years to get into their top pro forms.
That being said, she has had some injuries it seems. She may be struggling with the stresses of being a pro runner.
I think 2026 will give us a better idea of where she may be going with her career, for better or for worse.
I've always liked Tuohy, found her humble and a hard worker, and seen no indication she is a brat. She's a grinder and does the work. I wonder, though, what her best distances might be—perhaps that is part of the equation? (In college she ran anywhere from the 1500m to the 10k, if I recall.)

My 2 guesses:
1) we know she had at least one injury post college, maybe that and a set back or 2 brings u to today?
2) Like we discussed in other threads, with women, there is an x factor where they just stop improving.
"with women"? It happens to dudes too. The sport is a grind where nothing is guaranteed. You need cardiovascular talent. A chasis that can take a beating. Insane drive, but not enough to burn out. Hormonal resilience. The choice of a high physical toll/low pay job over something else. And luck.

I'll be cheering for her.
“I always liked Tuohy, found her humble and a hard worker, and seen no indication she is a brat. She's a grinder and does the work”
Isn’t that applicable to just about every elite runner?
I'd say four individual NCAA titles plus collegiate records in the indoor mile and 3000m and outdoor 5000m is better than "some good stuff." What's your standard for "a lot of good stuff?"
But she is slower than Roe, Hedegren, Schweizer, Monson, Valby, etc. Yes she was great in high school. Nobody cares anymore. She is a pro. You sound like Al Bundy.
