Sometimes I take my dogs to a public park and let them run around off the leash. They’re totally safe and have most of their their shots. Sometimes they take a dump in the park, and I never clean it up. It’s a public place, I didn’t think I need to. If they crap in someone’s front yard, I’ll clean that up. But am I obligated to clean their sh!t up in a public place? I ask because some lady started yelling at me the other day about my dogs. I just waved my hand and wandered off without responding. But I wonder what my obligations really are. I would say in a public park it’s watch your step. I mean if you step in crap, it’s your problem. Am I the A$hole?
Same category of people that drive 60mph in the passing lane on the highway or leave shopping carts in the middle of parking lots.
In Florida, almost nobody returns shopping carts to the designated area. It's cultural.
Yeah, but a park is public property, it doesn’t belong to me.
I like your argument. Only problem is that you may need to convince a judge that you are not part of the public.
Like another poster said, in many cities humans are eliminating waste in public. The Allen Iverson of dogs would say, "We talkin' about dogs? Dogs?" Head tilt...
No judge in their right mind would take a case against a dog. Left mind? Maybe... It would be a fun case.
In India, people (not dogs) sh!t in the streets all the time. They don't even try to find a park to dump in. I'm just saying. Maybe some complainers in this thread not to adjust their priorities.

They have arranged marriages for 14 year old girls in some countries. Just because it's cultural, certainly doesn't make it right. At that, I'd expect nothing less from the sunny state of Florida.
I honesty thought bot cleaning up after your dog was a crime you’d get fined or prosecuted for in all the developed world, where are you that’s so backward you can leave it?

Wow, equate a felony with not returning a shopping cart. I'd expect nothing less from a liberal progressive.
Using your logic it would also be acceptable to dump leaves, tree branches, banana peels, apple cores, chicken bones, your dogs carcasses when someone kills them for repeatedly pooping in public places, excavated dirt, etc. on public places.
None of those are acceptable or legal.
As the owner of your dogs you are responsible for their actions.

OK...when you hypothetically kill dogs in your moral fantasy, you've lost the plot.
Semi nuanced allowance: If your dog goes in the bushes or off trail in a place where nobody in their right mind would look much less step then all things being equal, I don't see issue leaving it. Caveat if there's rare ecosystem or concerned species in area or something then pick it up. Otherwise if out of site out of mind I don't see issue leaving it honestly. But if on open grass or trail or sidewalk or garden etc, you're a gross pr1ck if you don't pick it up.
I'll start by saying that yes you are in the wrong.
But will also offer a devil's advocate view. If the OP needs to pick up after his dog - should runners be picking up their own sh*t after going in the woods?
