Why is Shalane bad? I used to compete against her back in the day. She was always painfully thin and obviously anorexic. Does she push that on her runners?

Hmm they had some decent marathoners on the women’s side. Kellyn, Steph Bruce. Krissy Gear was with them when she won the steeple trials. Aliphine won the marathon trials. Also fan favorite Scotty Faubs.

I think everyone at BTC was ok with whatever nonsense was going on, as long as they were getting results. Then the Eugene move broke them, or whatever reason emerged for some individuals like Nike's reductions, injury cycle, etc. Similar to any other job.
Makes me wonder just how long the life of track club is. Like, how long will On in Boulder last? ZAP finally bit it. Hansons Brooks still around, but not as high profile. NAZ Elite past its hey day.
Nike doesn't pay Shalane to coach pros, U of O does. I find it sort of galling that she's moved into the older foreign runner roster approach. I do not have a problem with foreign runners competing in the NCAA, however when the majority of your XC team is over 22 and represents a foreign country it doesn't feel consistent with the goals of the NCAA system.

Eh, it’s more than just “ruthless”. This is just not a nice person. I’m shocked that more information has not been leaked on some shenanigans that went on in the back half of the peak Bowerman years.

TBF, Mia B. is an American who switched to Sweden to try to make teams.
At B1Gs, Shalane and the team does well because the schools there aren't hot at distance other than UW. At nationals, they fizzle.
Anyway, what top athlete is going to want to go to UO at this point? It's a clown college degree, and Portland/Eugene aren't cool places to live anymore.

She’s not really a private citizen tho, is she? On social media all the time, even throwing her kids out there to enhance her personal brand.
Anyway, I don’t expect her to be nice any more than I expect Jerry to be nice. I do expect her to be professional and play by the rules of the sport.
