Joshua Cheptegei's third marathon is Sunday in Amsterdam. Can he finally run a good one? Predictions?

World XC is still competitive. All of the best Africans do it, and that is all that really matters. It is just seen as a less important race because the white people that run it get killed so bad that the fans don’t care to watch it.

I think it was fairly clear - and maybe to Mo himself - that as what was then the sixth fastest 1500m runner of all time, he was never really equipped to be a great marathon runner.

In a time trial situation his best distance might have been around 2 miles, but in a championship that set him up perfectly as a 5000/10000m competitor, just as Ingebrigsten is the fastest 1500m runner of his era but a better 5000m championship competitor.

Cheptegei almost singlehandedly sold millions of "super shoes" by breaking the 5000 and 10,000m world records.

Nobody else has done that yet, and he can't match his own feat on the roads, even wearing more advanced, superer shoes than he had on the track.

cue the "but they used to dope" replies. It's hard to admit you've been fooled. So hard to admit.

So things are underway in Amsterdam, let's see the 5k times. Some light headwind until KM19 apparently.

I see about 14:38 for the first 5K, which is about 2:03mid pace right now. Sounds sensible

Yeah 2:03:45, with pace picking up after KM4 apparently.

Lead pack has went through 10K at 29:16/29:17. Basically even pace from the last 5K

44:00 across 15K for the men's lead pack

58:56 for the 20th km. more importantly the first split where the pack is ahead of course record schedule (by 2secs), but by math they could be slowing still

Cheptegei in the back for the large group...maybe to make sure he got his drink.
