Karsten Warholm was the world leader, and finished 5th.
Miltiadis Tentoglou was the world leader, and finished 11th.
Leonard Fabbri was the world leader, and finished 4th.
Julian Weber was the world leader, and finished 5th.
Sander Skotheim was the world leader, and DNF. (DQ in 110mH.)
Amanda Moll was the world leader, and finished 6th.
Brooke Andersen was the world leader, and NM in the qualifying.
I don't know which one was the most disappointing. Andersen looks the worst on paper. Skotheim looks really bad after 18th in Paris last year (NM in PV). Personally, most disappointed in Warholm because I am more interested in track than in field (or multi).
(Dis)honorable mention: three-time defending champion Grant Holloway not making the final.
Great Britain not winning any Gold Medals, I Thought Keely Hodgkinson had a great chance.
In theMedal Tables USA had No other Country Close, Kenya was 2nd mostly cause the Kenyan Woman won ALL The Distance events 800, 1500, 5000, 10000, Steeple and Marathon
It's not like GB often wins many golds. It's usually one, two at most since Farah retired. Keely and Kerr were the only realistic hopes and Kerr got injured.
My personal disappointment is the performance of the GB relay teams. So much funding goes into the relays and they completely bombed. It seems you can't keep putting B-tier athletes into teams and expecting medals to come out.
Truthfully, the biggest disappointment was that the LetsRun chatter added so little to the enjoyment of an exciting Worlds.
This is so true. Normally it's been so enjoyable to watch it live and read letsrun at the same time. But this year it was just too little positive and too much negative energy. Especially all these doping accusations of pretty much every medalist. This needs to be gotten under control by the mods. I honestly had no more desire to go on letsrun during the WC.
I was hoping that Godzilla made an appearance. Not super destructive, just stomped around a bit, then jumped back into the ocean. It would've increased viewership.
I was disappointed with how slow many of the distance races were, especially for the men.
I know it was championship racing, with rounds, and less than ideal weather.
But these were the fastest and fittest runners on earth, and these were the World Championships. Many runners qualified by meeting a time standard.
Yes it was exciting to have so many runners still "in it" with only 10-15% of the race to go, and the sprint finishes were exciting.
But it would have been even more exciting for a longer period and for more of the race if the paces/finishing times were faster.
I would have enjoyed watching the fittest and fastest runners starting out quickly, grinding down the competition with a fast pace and then kicking it in for a win much more than what actually happened.
Have to say this year’s worlds was full of expectation subversions. Sometimes that can be a good thing, to create intrigue and surprise. But for the most part all of the surprises were more like letdowns in my perspectives
- Jakon out of the 1500 was interesting. But beyond that, having Nuguse & Hocker missing, plus Kerr pull up midway felt like a letdown from a possibly exciting Paris rematch… and I’ll admit it, nobody cares about Nader and idrc that he won that one.
- American men missing the 800 final a huge letdown, especially given Brazier and Luktenhaus storylines this year
- Gressier just an outright weird winner for the 10k. From and American perspective it sucks we didn’t medal, and given it was such a slow race it’s kinda infuriating a moderate like Gressier won it.
- Rooks bombing out of the steeple definitely disappointing given the high hopes coming of Paris silver.
- Holloway out of the 110H disappointing. nothing else to say
- Always disappointing to know a world beater talent in Athing Mu is sitting at home when she should be winning her 5th straight global title in the 800 right now.
- what is wrong with ShaCarri Richardson?
I guess these are all disappointments from and American perspective, and yes there were things that were good surprises, like shocker 5000 gold, or things we expected, like SML 400 gold, but overall it just felt like a weird meet to me.
Love Grant but it’s got to be him. The stars could not have aligned for him better with a very weak 10 and then a fairly water down 5000. And to be honest, he wasn’t even competitive in ether. Surely unless he surprises us still in the future he will have look back at 25 as his best chance for not just a medal, THE medal.

Agree. But I think for me, Im isolated from other enthusiasts that have history and knowledge. Here It's somewhere between finding others that can relate and educating younger enthusiasts. The rest is just filtering and teasing Sasquatch.
Not seeing a fully Fit trio of Hocker, Kerr and Ingebrigtsen going at it with a resurgent Jake Whiteman and a Fast Finishing Isaac Nader.
Similar for Julian Alfred
And Syd not running the 400h as well as the flat.
as it stands each of those races was great but it's better when nobody can point to bad luck or ill health.
One of your biggest disappointments was a women who won 2 gold medals (one in stunning fashion with the 2nd fastest time in history), and you are disappointed she didn't win 3?
None. I don't belong to a gossipy old ladies bridge club, therefore I don't have any expectations for others doing something that I don't have a vested interest, input, or control over. I seem to be able to enjoy the reality of athletic events for what they are, not what I think they should be. I've never been compelled to scan the results of an effing track meet for the purpose of denigrating athletes who are performing at a level that I've never been close to.
It's easy for me to appreciate the brilliance of a sixth place finish in a world championships. Heck, just getting there is a major accomplishment. Only the best of the best ever get to do it. Even competing in the "baby conference", as pathetic as it is, means you're striving to be something better than you are. As your own athletic experience has proven, you really can be better than you are. Your unreasonable expectations of others can be better, should be better.
Seriously, wejo, you should try it. It's better for your soul. Happiness means never having to say "goes home devastated" or "choked."
This is pretty much spot on.
"Goes home devastated" is such a trite and tired expression. If someone can't make the world championships and "go home devastated," they're doing alright. The phrase is disrespectful to the athletes.
