I don't know what IIRC means (I'm not a native English-speaker)
In the video, it says the final lap in Zurich was 53.03 but Bekele is not leading at the bell, he is slightly behind Songok. I timed it a couple of times, and got 52.9.
The final lap time that is displayed on screen is the time between the leader hits 4600m (or 1100m, 9600m etc. in other distances) and the winner crosses the finish line. So if the winner of the race leads with one lap to go then the on-screen final lap time is correct, but if it's two different persons (leading with one lap to go and winning) then the final lap time is incorrect, and the winner has run even faster. Lagat did not lead in the London race that people mentioend, so his final lap time was even faster than 51.94 (on-screen final lap time)
And yeah, the penultimate lap time in the Zurich race was rather slow 66/67 ish. But 52.9 is crazy fast, especially in a sub-12:50 race.
I really wanna see Hocker and (a heatlhty/injury-free) Jakob in a fast paced DL 5000m race the next season. They are both capable of much faster times than their current PBs.
I stand corrected. I remember it's 53 low, but didn't remember he wasn't in front. That's mightily impressive, probably the only way to neutralize Hocker today.

Agreed. THIS is the kind of result you would want to see from a guy who ran 7:23 indoors closing in 27 the last 200. He has to be in ~12:45 shape finally.
Now I wonder if Kerr and Nuguse will think about giving the 5000 a real shot as well?

oops, missed that comment. IIRC= If I remember correctly
Yeah, I think they're going after WR, then felt the pace too hot and backed off. Had they kept the pace, it might have been around 12:40.
Same here, though I always get the impression that Hocker is kinda like Kerr and Mo, only hunting for championships, but not caring about anything else nearly as much. That's why I'm still more a Jakob fan. That said, hope he proves me wrong in 2026, as there's really no excuses not to go after fast times next year with no championships in sight.
Not exactly the question Rojo asked, but in global final 5ks since 2000, there aren't even that many winners who closed <53 sec irrespective of winning time. Zero 5k winners that closed in <53 in a sub 13 race. The closest is Farah in 2016 (13:03 closing in 52.8).
Also worth shouting out Bekele 10k in 2004 (27:05, closed in ~ 53.0)

Doesn’t the last 800, and last 1000, and perhaps the last 2000 make a difference though? Sorry to rain on the parade but if somebody closes in 53 but the last 1000-2000 was way faster than somebody closing in 51-52, the former is more impressive.
No doubt though that Hocker may be among the best 5000m closers in history.
