It's not harassment for someone to protect what is legally theirs. Gjert is probably aware of Drew Hunter and his buddies using the Tinman Elite name they took from their former coach, Tom "Tinman" Schwartz, and Gjert understandably doesn't want the same thing happening to him.
Besides, how would you know the extent of all the ways Gjert communicates with his sons? Sounds like you're making some major assumptions there.
Lastly, why should athletes looking for a coach care about the relationship Gjert has with his sons? They're asking Gjert to be their coach, not their dad. Gjert is the best 1500m coach in the world.
But it's not his- he didn't even come up with it- it's Marius Bakken's.
Now, a few days before the championship, it is known that Gjert Ingebrigtsen has applied for the right to the trademark "Ingebrigtsen method" shortly before the World Cup.
Plus he says he's already the only one who can use "Team Ingebrigtsen."
"I know that Gjert Ingebrigtsen recently contacted others in the team around his sons to point out that he has exclusive rights to the Team Ingebrigtsen name, and that there will be trouble if this is used commercially," says the Ingebrigtsen brothers' advisor, Espen Skoland, to TV 2.
Why doesn't Jakob just call his training the Bekele Method if he is serious about getting WRs in everything?
You act as if it's all one-sided. What about Jakob blocking Gjert from getting the coaching accreditation needed to accompany Narve to meets? Jakob is using their family friction to try to interfere with Gjert's profession. What kind of person does that? A petty person.
Maybe it’s you who are acting one-sided here -1. you might have had a point if Nordås was a field athlete, who needed an accredited coach on inner line to show him videos of his technique between his jumps or throws. But since that isn’t the case a runner can be perfectly fine with his coach on the tribune, and with access through an extra turn into a neighbouring park if coach/athlete have face to face communication needs under the warm up. (The Norwegian Federation has cleared this extra opportunity for Gjert/Narve).
2. Jakob himself had a couple of years without accredited coach in the champs, and this is not uncommon. -There’s not accreditations enough for all the coaches.
3. The Norwegian Federation has more than implied that they fear Gjert’s motivation for an accreditation is aside of being self righteous also is this to harass his son(s).
4. Gjert is observed quarrelling with his sons just before the start of races, also in champs.
5. Jakob only wants to be shielded from meeting his father in hotel corridors (the athletes’ hotel), the call room, the warm up facility, and on the track itself. -Would that be an unnecessary burden for Jakob (to meet his father)? Well, Gjert is caught (on tape) saying he will actively go after his sons for revenge. And we know well informed officials in the Norwegian Federation claim they have seen some sign of this around the champs in Gjert’s actions (waiting for Jakob in corridors he must pass, and so on).

You might have had a point if Jakob chose to move far away from Gjert to ensure he'd never have to see him again. But he didn't. He chose to stay in Sandnes. So spare us all the BS about Jakob needing to be shielded from Gjert.
That's speculation, but the fact is that they don't have any control over them. Nothing's stopping Canada and Portugal if they wanted to.
It's a fair question to ask. They might want to respect Norway's wishes and avoid ruffling Norwegian feathers. Allied countries tend to be cooperative with one another. Unless it's the United States. They do whatever they want and don't care what others think.
No decent person treats their children this way. He’s already abused them enough. So the most important thing he can think to do is protect the family name with a trademark and then warn / threaten the sons if they use it. Who does that?
You dodged my questions. And now you're repeating the unproven allegation of Gjert abusing his children as if it's true he did. He was only found guilty of doing one thing one time to one child. That's it.
Did heGjert say protecting his legal rights is "the most important thing he thinks he can do?" I didn't see that anywhere in the article. That is another assumption on your part. Maybe it's one of many things on his to-do list. That doesn't make it "the most important thing."
You seem to be fond of making assumptions and accusing Gjert of actions and thoughts you don't know to be true. Have you considered the harm to this man's reputation you are causing when you do that? Why don't you be more considerate.
The friction between Gjert and his sons has nothing to do with his abilities as a coach. He has proven himself to be an excellent coach.
I didn't dodge your question. It is not an equivalent example for Drew Hunter to use his coach's name. The Ingebrigtsen's are all the same family and name. I believe the children - Gjert brought this on himself. The children are now grown adults and have nothing to gain by making all of this public. They just want their abusive father to leave them alone. But he can't help himself and knows no other way to communicate other than to be mean in public. It's human nature for families to stick together unless something really bad happens which it clearly did here. Personal integrity counts for a lot as a coach and from what I have seen Gjert has little. He may know the science and how to apply it but athletes are human beings and he has shown himself to be lacking when it comes to interaction with people.

More assumptions, generalizations, and sheer nonsense from you.
If Gjert is so lacking in his interactions with other people, then why have runners been so successful with him as their coach?

Yes, he chose to stay in Sandnes, because it’s his hometown. And I think he sees very little to Gjert. And the latter seems to build an alternative home in Spain… So yes, I think Jakob is feeling pretty well shielded, apart from what might happen in the sport (accreditation and so on).

Jakob chose to stay in Sandnes because the truth is he doesn't really need to be shielded from Gjert. Jakob, Henrik, and Filip could have easily moved to another town. It would make more sense for them to be in or near Oslo to make their travel easier.
Despite the estrangement, the family members live very close to each other. "I can almost touch my children's houses, we are all within 300 metres," Gjert told The New York Times in August 2025.
Encounters in public: Gjert stated, "We see each other all the time, we meet in the grocery shop nearby, the children go to the same schools".

First of all: Filip doesn’t live in Sandnes, so there you are factually wrong.
2. Jakob has explained that he drives / goes to his house from the opposite direction of where Gjert lives.
3. Gjert claims that he meets family members all the time at the grocery shop, and that may of course be true. But we also know that Jakob doesn’t frequent the grocery shop (didn’t even do this before the conflict because of his celebrity status). -In Jakob’s video about “what I eat a whole day” we get f.x to see that the groceries come by delivery service (from “Meny”). And if Jakob meets Gjert in Sandnes unplanned it’s easy to just walk away -not so easy in a tiny call room when you maybe wish to prepare for an important race without your estranged father’s eyes on you, and maybe some words in a corridor… But the point is that there’s no need for Gjert to be there, especially since it’s also a problem.
Coming across each other is only a problem because Jakob makes it a problem. He's petty, unprofessional, and immature.
Narve is a world championship medalist and one of the best runners in Norway, but he can't have his coach with him at the biggest meet of the year because of Jakob.

He might be an excellent coach but he also shows what kind of person he is. He appears to have quite a lot in common with Trump's father.
He reminds me of ma junren, and thats not a compliment.
Gjerts metode. A book written together with Frode Saugestad (2021). It is much, much, more than double threshold. Just for the record.
It's extremely similar to what Bakken developed. The Norwegian method has never just been double threshold. Bakken also showed where Gjert copied his training and provided correspondences between the 2 when Gjert decided to claim full credit for something he didn't make.

There's more than one thing at play here of course.
1: As for origin: Early on Gert himself was very open about having been inspired by Marius Bakken. But he also said the tweaked and developed it further.
2: Calling it the "Ingebrigtsen Method" and copyright the use of "Team Ingebrigtsen" are just commercial moves. It doesn't stop others from calling the method something else. In Sweden they've called it "The Norweigian Method" pretty much from the beginning.
3: Team this or that is increasingly becoming a thing in long distance Nordic Cross Country skiing (Norway won all the golds on the normal distances men's side and Sweden won all the gold on the women's side in the last word champs) but long distance and teams are where the money is going up at the moment. Distance running in the US already have this phenomenon, there's money to be made there in the future in Norway too, whether Gert's athletes stay on track or becomes a marathon thing instead.
4: As for the beef with his sons: Gert is devout Christian (read his book) and the first commandment means a lot to him. He's obviously not happy about not getting to live out his life as the family patriarch respected the way the Bible says he should.
