I think a lot of posters are funny. The running news is top notch. Non-running news stories often break here before they hit the major news sites. People love to talk about my favorite sport. And so on.
I also feel free to post whatever I want which is rare nowadays. Wokedom/mass censorship isn't really a problem here. People who complain about their posts being frequently deleted are usually semiliterate morons who have been banned multiple times.
Elite marathon threads are generally thoughtful and entertaining. NCAA distance chat has been almost always civil and insightful since Tuohy/Valby/Wiley moved on.
Yes, otherwise I wouldn't visit it. I like the running discussion and some of the off-topic threads are pretty funny. Anything negative I ignore or scroll past.
I’ve been coming here since 2000 or 01. The place has always been mostly noise and nonsense, but there have also been nuggets of gold along the way. I stumbled into a group of people who got a few years of personal on line coaching from Hadd (John Walsh from Malta, RIP), and benefited enormously. I also met Antonio Cabral in person and he scored me an (undeserved but appreciated) elite masters bib for the Lisbon half. That’s been the main payoff for wading through years of muck…
Yes. This site used to be the acme of internet quality and entertainment. TROLLISM levels were supremely high and even those who didn't intend to be trolls provided entertainment with their ridiculous postings. These contributions were leavened by real gems from actual athletes and coaches, Canova and Rick Wohlhuter for example, and best of all from legendary EDDYLEE who stated "I will not stop until I reach my goal." And you know, unlike almost everyone else in history who has made such proclamations for years prior, HE DID NOT STOP UNTIL HE REACHED HIS GOAL.
On APRIL 16th 2010. It was at that exact moment that LR reached its apogee of #TOTALGLORY. 8th place in the Bryan Clay Invy 1500 at Azusa, CA. Only the LR cognoscenti realized the meaning of the moment and that made it all even sweeter.
And yes, for those who recall the moment, I did Neliah.
But since that incandescent moment in 2010, things turned south... the increasingly heavy-handed censorship and general winds of political correctness undermined the quality, much as almost everything amusing and entertaining has been diluted to the point it no longer works.
There are still occasional gems to be found, JRinaldi and occasionally Canova for instance. It is a shadow of its former glory but where else can even this morsel of entertainment be found among the sterile social media and environmental desert of political correctness and rampant hypocrisy that weighs us all down?
The ONLY thing I get out of this site is sometimes a workable link to watch a live stream of a race, since subscriptions are mostly worthless. Example - just this past week someone posted a workable link to Sydney Marathon, albeit the coverage was in Russian. But it was decent coverage.
Otherwise, there isn't much value here except for the occasional "breaking news".
But even the most informational threads end up getting hijacked or go off track, and the most entertaining ones get shut down by the inconsistent mods.
Overall, I'd rate this site on content a 3/10, and on a workable user-friendly site, a 1/10.
