Goal seems to be to run a fast 200 from a slightly fatigued state. A distance analogue might be running a mile between mile and 5k race pace after a tempo.
I've only watched two of his videos. What impresses me most is a mental maturity beyond his years. What impresses me just as much is his coaches maturity beyond his years. He always holds Lutkenhaus back, restraining him away from killer workouts.
Lutkenhaus is in good hands. The both of them are going to continue to do great things together.
The video was posted before daylight today. So the workout could not be 9/3. Wondering when it really happened. Great workout. Especially the timed 200 in spikes. I think it's the first time in spikes since the 1:42
Not insane. I could have done that with less rest between sets. But 23.0 on the last 200? NFW!
You can rep 25s?
Why are you skeptical? If you were to ask anyone who has ever trained with me if I could have done that workout (without the 23.0 of course) they would all answer the same:
"No ........... how the heck would you ever get him to stand around for six minutes?"
Insane stuff for the phenom, so excited to see him at worlds. His coach seems to be a great guy.
It really doesn’t seem insane to me. A 2:01 and a 1:30 are really slow for him, and for a 46 guy, 25s 200s shouldn’t be that tough.
I don’t get the downvotes. The 600m and 800 times are equivalent to a 2:00 guy running 2:18 pace. I wasn’t a 400/800m guy but if someone one who has 46 speed, the 200s at 25 should not be that difficult. It would be like someone with 52 speed running 28s.
His 1:42 is more than insane but that workout was quite rational.

Nowhere was it said, or even implied, that the workout was done on 9/3.

it's not an insane workout by any stretch, but an 800 and a 600 at slightly faster than mile pace is a fairly good push leading up to the 200s.
anyway, i think the workout is just exactly what you'd expect. Not insane. Not soft.

2:01 pace for him is more like a 2:00 guy running 2:20+. It's not a jog but it's going to be very steady for him.

Try doing this workout from start to finish. Its not easy.
Right, but I could have never have run 1:42. The 600m and 800m times were zero stress for him so assessing his workout comes down to how fast 6X25 seconds is for a 46/1:42 guy and I think he might actually be capable of 45. The 23 after a complete rest, and I don’t how unexpected it is for someone who can run sub-22.
I see the workout as being part of the taper for the WC.
Are you old or slow? I ran 1:55 800m in Division 3 and could rep 25s.
You realize how easy it is to rep 25/26 for 200m with a lil rest? lol how slow are you.
Anyone could do that workout. The 23.0 at the end is decent. Its a good easy workout to sharpen him up.
I was much faster than you and definitely wasn't consistently doing 25s 200m repeats. Could I have? Probably. Most workouts were more in the 27-28s range with 30s or so rest.
