Definitely for concerts. Paper ticket stubs were always a cool souvenir after a show. I have a collection of hundreds from concerts I've been to over the years - some signed by the band I saw that night - but sadly it has stopped growing because of digital tickets.
Every electronic ticket I have had could be shared with a person so they have it on their phone.
Some baseball stadiums will print out a ticket for you at customer service.
I literally just went to a Nine Inch Nails concert with my teenage daughter. After you scan the tickets at the door, you can no longer transfer them. I found that out the hard way. They were on my phone, but when she wanted to go to the bathroom during the opening act, I had to go with her and wait outside. Not a big deal, but still a loophole I didn’t know existed. I already got tickets to next years FIFA World Cup. FIFA is the worst. Impossible to transfer tickets or sell them.
Using the word “literally” all the time needs to end. You either went to the concert or you didn’t go to the concert. There is no way you went figuratively.
The other day I went to a baseball and the line was delayed because the guy trying to scan his ticket from his phone was having internet trouble (not the same as the problem in the article below).
Another annoying thing about digital tickets is the fact that you can't always very easily give one to a friend with whom you're attending an event. If they have to go to the bathroom, they might need a ticket to re-enter their section, and you can't give them your phone because it'll lock with 3-tiered authentication.
(Yes, I know that I work in tech, and yes, I know there are "solutions" to all these problems. It's still a valid opinion that digital tickets shouldn't be the only way. I would prefer to have physical ticket and then digital option as a backup in case my physical ticket gets damaged or lost. I don't want to install a stupid Alaska Airlines app on my phone.)
paper tickets were around long after "the 90s". I vastly prefer them. Never know when your phone could take a dump or have a glitch or you forgot to charge it or something. Then what if you need to transfer tix to the boomer? Its gotten better over the years, my electronic tix work better now, but there was a window in time there where you were trying to log on to ticketmaster and couldn't find the ticket or some other platform and your PW won't work etc...etc...
I appreciate the simplicity of the paper ticket, and i enjoy being able to have something physical and not needing to worry about downloading tickets to my phone or having trouble scanning them.
However, i am glad that thr digital tickets have basically gotten rid of scalpers and scammers trying to buy and sell tickets outside the venues. These guys were super annoying and now they are gone.

Except now the scalpers are the digital ticket sellers themselves, such as Ticketmaster's ridiculous "verified resale" tickets that they themselves hold back until supply is low/demand is high and that cost 4X the original price.

Thank you for your valuable contribution to the conversation. You literally made my day. You sound like the life of every party.
My dad is a Miami Dolphins season ticket holder. I remember growing up as a kid every year and waiting by the mailbox for the ticket book to arrive every year. They'd give us all the tickets and thank us for being fans (my family has been season ticket holders since 1970). That got me so excited for the upcoming season - not to mention the feeling of holding the ticket in my hand as a young kid.
It just isn't the same these days - they send the tix through the app and there's no personal connection to it.
Bank - username 1 password 2 another No 3 phone tx 4 account No 5 - 50 years time will be up to 20- your phone saves it anyway and phones can easily be opened
Actually bank is the 1 i would not get rid of but some crappy site or my email that's been hacked a 100 x all it does is stop genuine users not fraudsters
yes! i don't have a smart phone and it has become such a pain. i went to a few track meets at indoors new balance in boston, and they were fine with an explanation and a photo or print out of the ticket. but that doesn't work with something like the celtics, so i always have to enter with someone with a smart phone. i haven't found any workarounds.

Do you also believe that no one should ever use words for emphasis?
