Say what you will about Ingy, but this guy is fearless lol. Injured for 4 months, hasn’t raced a single time all season, he could’ve easily just done the 5 which is obviously his better event but he decided to take the bull by the horns and go for it.
I think he would use rounds of 1500m as tune-ups, and the 5k is his focus. After all, he's the kind of guys who race to train and the 1500m would be his first race since the injury. That said, I hope I'm wrong, and he wins both!
He's the most vulnerable he's been in his entire pro career -- going into a championship. Doing a double just puts him in reach to get crushed -- he has no idea where his fitness is without even a single race leading to this event.
Jakob, Hocker, Kerr, T. Cheruiyot, R. Cheruiyot, P. Koech, N. Laros, Habz, Nordas, Myers
Question Marks (inexperience/injury etc.): Strand, J. Koech, Moe Berg, Essayi, Nader, Pihlstrom, Nillessen
Dark Horses (form off): Wightman, Gourley
Will be some surprises I’m sure. You could see Reynold botching his positioning or Myers getting pipped
I really think you’ll see Strand with a medal if the final plays into a 3:34 race with last 150m burn up.
The big surprise: Jose Carlos Pinto. He will for sure reach the final. He is progressing and progressing. A 3:34-race, though, will be perfect for him. Think he can beat Strand at the last 150.

He’ll know from his workouts what kind of shape he’s in. If he’s worried about it, he can run a time trial.

How is Jakob “fearless?” This is all a game. If he were on the front lines in Ukraine you might have a point. Jakob isn’t fearless. Some of you have no perspective.

I’d put Jakob in the Question Marks group because he’s coming back from injury and he hasn’t raced this outdoor season. Yes, he’s shown before that he can run fast in his first race back after a long layoff from racing. But those were one-off races. We don’t know how his achilles will handle rounds.
Notably: the first round of the 1500m and the semis are on consecutive days. The good news is the first round is in the morning, and the semis are in the evening, which will allow for extra recovery time. Even so, Jakob will have less than 36 hours and only one night of sleep in between races. Will that be enough time for his achilles? I think it’s a fair question. Hopefully he’ll be fine, but we won’t have the answer until Tokyo.
I don't think Moe Berg would do well this championship. They didn't anticipate that he would go to the worlds so he timed his peak earlier. With that said, he is 19 so who cares lol. It's still nice for him to gain some experience.
Nah I Think he’s got it still somehow. 3.30.28 on August 21. And then he shouldn’t do Well in the middle of september? I have a feeling he Will do really Well even though I agree that they very Well might not have expected worlds
Good to see Håkon Moe Berg in the team. I wasn´t sure he ran his 3:30 inside the qualifying window.
I agree that Norway might get 3 man in the 1500m final. I´m most uncertain about Nordåas who some times runs a bad tactical race. BUT....
I think that the US and Kenya have at least the same chance to get all 3 through.
How many are allowed into the final? 12.....15?
12, and the favorites would be:
Jakob, Hocker, Kerr, T. Cheruiyot, R. Cheruiyot, P. Koech, N. Laros, Habz, Nordas, Myers
Question Marks (inexperience/injury etc.): Strand, J. Koech, Moe Berg, Essayi, Nader, Pihlstrom, Nillessen

I can agree with you more or less, you have 19 here, 5 more to complete 2 semi-finals, (Nillessen for sure, probably 4 more Europeans from this group, one belgian, one Irishman, one Spaniard, Farken, Pihlström). In those two wonderful semi-finals, with good luck to everyone, it will be a real war for 1-6th place.
P.S. Sorry to miss someone, like 2nd australian, maybe one more african

I wouldn't count on that. Maybe he'll fall shy if he reaches the final. But anybody in a heat or semifinal with Moe Berg needs to be extra careful approaching the finish. With those rabbit feet and instant acceleration he'll dart right past you and steal a spot.
Jakob has full control over his fitness level. Without a doubt. 10 years of measuring his lactat during different intervall session, tells him precisely what his body is capable of.

with zero races beforehand, going into a championship with potentially 5 races
you dont even follow what he says that closely, obviously
little different coming out of the box all out with a good performance at Pre after being injured vs running rounds where you have no idea where you are at as far as fitness
capability 1 day vs a championship is apples vs a holes

laros, kerr, hocker
1,2,3
this year will be the year of the late bloomers
Laros and Hocker are the complete opposites of late bloomers. Laros regularly beat Jakob’s age group records. He finished 5th at the Olympics as a highschooler.
Now that he has declared in both. What happens if he scratches (or does not give honest effort) in the 1500m? Is he disqualified for the rest of the competition (can’t run the 5000m)?
I have the same question for Mo Ahmed who has now declared for the 5000 and 10000. Seems unlikely that he will run both. He wasn’t able to finish the 5000 at Canadian champs.
Not quite the way it works. He hasn't officially "declared" in both, he's been selected by the Norwegian team in both events he has qualified in.
The official WA declaration happens in some timeframe before the start of the event (from memory it might be 72 hours, but might be less), definitely not sure about that. But either way, once that has happened the rules around starting and "fair competing" kick in. So you can't declare, get on the start sheet and just not show up, or do (as someone mentioned) what Makhloufi did in 2012 which was feign the worst fake "injury" he possibly could have to avoid running the 800 and save himself for the 1500m.
Either way there is absolutely ZERO chance Jakob does this. If he declares for the 1500m he will run it and likewise the 5000m. I think if he only does one event it's the 5000m but we would know a few days before the start of the 1500m because he simply wouldn't declare. But seems right now like he wants to do both.
