But it IS Grant Fisher that would have had the wild card if he won. That would just allow the USA to send four and Teare would have earned the fourth spot by finishing fifth at the trials and having the standard, not because of Grant Fisher winning. It’s only because Grant was 2nd at trials that the fourth spot goes to someone else. A wild card entry is granted to the winner regardless of their finishing place at trials and Teare getting in is just the downstream effect. Also It’s not up to the Diamond league or World Athletics if a country chooses to send the previous world champion or the diamond league winner as the wild card entry when they have both options, which they would have had if Cunningham won. That’s the decision of USATF, and they would choose Holloway as World Champion, even if Cunningham were the better choice which he would be in my opinion.
