On the subject of Europeans, it would be a huge deal in Ireland if she could win the title and she expects herself to be at that level. The Irish will travel in big numbers to Birmingham and while there are other medal hopes, she will certainly be expected to place highly on the medal podium. Sonja was right to call out the vagueness of the statement. The excuse was reminiscent of what you hear before a doping positive comes through. That was the undertone of the message. If you're injured WC year then come out and say it coherently not the vague nonsense we got on social media. Immediately doping incoming springs to mind. People around her would know that, which makes the statement all the worse as she's being poorly advised for a world class athlete.
