It is a Senior Area Championship and thus is categorized as a 'GL" meet by WA. NACAC, European Champs, Oceanic Champs, Asia Champs, African Champs, and South American Champs are all rated the same. The level of competition does not matter. That is why it is an easy method to get a lot of points and because the NACACs are held every three years or so, the points are active for a very long time.
I assume that if the diamond league champ later this month doesn’t already have the standard, Carlos will be replaced by whoever that is. If the diamond league champ is already going to worlds, could Dan get in by winning in the Bahamas, as it is the same level of competition as the south American championships–assuming he runs faster than 8:37.79 (Carlos' time at the SA champs), and the DL champ isn’t a new person? Or would a presumed new DL champ replace the single guy who is currently in by world ranking alone (the African champ, Leonard Chemutai)?
All that is assuming no one else runs the standard, like a bunch did in Belgium this week.
Just trying to figure out if it's standard or bust for Michalski. Looking like 83º and 79% humidity for race start down there.
