She comfortably made it to today’s final. She was well positioned to win before she was tripped.
Yes, if by comfortably you mean, "despite rapidly losing ground to Webb before edging her out by one tenth of a second to become the slowest Round-2 qualifier."
Was she tripped? Is there a protest of some sort? Or did the trip herself up with her own momentum? Anyone have a clip?
Meghan Hunter moved out coming off the last turn and cut Wiley off
She gradually moved out. Wiley was already losing ground and stepped on Hunter from behind. She no longer had a chance at top 3 and wasn't paying attention to the real race in front of her.

She was perfectly positioned to win. She was on the outside ready to kick as she has done multiple times before. She was ahead of Roisin who ended up winning.
Watch her at the London DL just last month. She was in a similar position as today and kicked to finish 2nd.

Yeah not sure why this Addy fan keeps posting but watching it live, she was fading hard and that’s part of why she tripped. She wouldn’t have been top 3 anyway.
Devastated for Addy getting tripped in the 800m final today. She most likely would have won the race were it not for that mishap.
She has worked hard and had had great results this year in the D against world class competition. She leads the DL in the 800m rankings so hoping she makes it to Tokyo.
It’s been great cheering for her in the DL and looking forward to the final. Hope to see her in Tokyo and get a podium.
She definitely would have won the race. The analysis suggesting she was fading are pure nutcase.
Wiley adapted her strategy very well today. She always goes out too slowly in Diamond League races. It doesn't kill her because those are paced races with fast tempo. Single file early. Wiley smartly realized she couldn't risk that type of thing today because she would be jammed at the back of a wide slower moving bunch after 200.
Beyond that point everything was cluttered but fine. Wiley was waiting to unleash with 200 remaining. That's always her best tactic. She only gets in trouble when she pushes early on the backstretch, like the semifinal.
Anyone who thinks she was fading today doesn't own two track-watching brain cells. Wiley had never kicked at all. How does anyone seriously believe that a runner of that caliber who hadn't put forth anything close to maximum effort was going backwards?
Wiley was so upset after the race because she understood everything was going to plan and she was full of run until the human bobblehead doll Meghan Hunter suddenly darted 45 degrees to the right into Wiley's path in inner lane two. Every angle clearly depicts that. I've seen it before with Hunter. She has no peripheral vision or concern with anyone beyond herself.
Sure it's easy to second guess. Maybe Wiley should have moved forward earlier, essentially to where Hunter was. Maybe Wiley should have sensed that Hunter would angle outside and therefore been wider into lane two herself.
Either way it's not a celebration when someone of that level misses the team. The women's 800 final has dependably the greatest likelihood of carnage at United States trials.

Talented athlete but needs a new coach. Forget the Huntington stuff, she won’t get to the next level in her current setup.

She messed up and fell. Winners, win. They don't make excuses. If she makes excuses like this, and wines and cries because she "deserved the win", she is a poor sport who will keep losing, and her attitude is at least half of the problem.

Yep, she was fading. Surprising in that race was slow - 1:59 and even paced.
DL - she is in 2nd in Diamond League points, but not likely to win the DL final vs Africans, which is the race that matters.
Stuff happens, Hurta should have made some previous teams, but bungled it...and finally squeaked on team today.
Congdon, the surprise, but not a surprise that someone has a kick in a perfectly paced race.
Willis, well someone in that Stanford W&W dorm room always seems to have a good year.

The "next level"? She is leading the Diamond League right now. She's beaten Hull, Reekie, Mu, Moraa, Nakaayi, Goule-Toppin, Werro, Bourgoin, Sekgodiso, Maloney, Lamont, and others. Thats 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 8th in the Olympic final. She will rise to #5 in the World on Wednesday. She broken the 1000m Area Record twice. World Indoor, World Road Mile teams. If it wasn't for the trip, she would have easily made the team and almost certainly would have won; nobody in that field can kick like her, see the London and Monaco DLs.
I would not be at all surprised if she beats Hunter Bell in the DL Final to make it to Tokyo and then is our top American there.
She at at the top level now and there is no coach who could possibly have gotten her this far. Lauren Johnson has done an amazing job with her for 5+ years and there is no way she is ever changing coaches. That's a stupid suggestion and is not worth even saying since it will never happen.
A lot of the rhetoric on here both for and against Wiley is over the top, but everyone should agree that she does still have an excellent chance of winning the DL final, especially since (1) she's already qualified, so she can do whatever she needs to peak for it, and (2) she'll have so much extra motivation. I think it would actually be very fitting if she made the team that way. It would go with her whole history of accomplishing big things outside the "usual" and "expected" channels.
