Kerr slaughtered the field, no one really at his level in it, but put 10 seconds into Rory Leonard in the last 800m after Leonard took the pace. 13:44 winning time.
A few of us said it would be 13:45. Medoicre time, mediocre last 1k. It shows nothing.
JOsh Kerr will never be global threat in the 5000.
Instinctively, I agree, but the a guy who has run 8-flat for 2 miles and was World Champion in the 3k (beating Barega and Nuguse) must surely have a decent shot in the 5k if he trained for it. Though age is against him now.

I agree. I think Kerr could contends for medals in the 5000m if he trains for it. (The same goes for Hocker).
AND I don´t think age is a problem. Many great European 5000m runners have peaked in their late twenties or later.
By the way: Kerr looked very slim and fit in the interview after the race.
And like 5 Americans ran the last K in 2:22 in a 13:26 race. So what?
The Americans ran a 2:32 last K last weekend. That's why Hocker won. If it had been a 2:24 Fisher and Nico would have been the only ones who could have kept.

Agreed. Bit weird of him to say that this shows that he's strong enough to win the 1500m. His PB is around 13:25 and the close in this race wasn't impressive compared to many of his 1500m competitors' closing abilities in a 5k. Given that it was a relatively low-competition field, this doesn't show bad fitness, but it also certainly doesn't signal particular strength.
I chalked this performance up as him having fun at a championships where he didn't have anything on the line because he has a bye. It's so on brand of him to spin this as a weight in favor of him winning at worlds lol
