What if someone who was already on the US team wins the DL final?

1) Nuguse

2) Hocker

3) Strand

4) Kessler

If Nuguse then wins the DL final, does that open up a spot for Hobbs at world’s? Would USATF send him?

Is this the right choice for Hunter to do the 5 instead of the 10? Since he doesn't like chasing times, mentally chasing a 5 standard would be a little easier than chasing a 10 standard, that could be his mindset

Feels like there's a decent shot we can get 4 in the 1500. Nuguse did win the 1500 in Zurich the last two years (the site of this year's DL final), so I bet he'll want to race there again. I think him and the other US guys will have to get over to the remaining DL meets to get enough points to get into the final though, since Pre is the only DL they've run so far. There's a 1500 in Silesia and Brussels.

Any other events the US might a 4th in from the DL final? We already have wild cards for the mens 100 and 200 from the last World Champs. The DL final is a 3k rather than a 5k, could Young win another DL race? I think Fisher would need to run the 5k in Lausanne and hope to get enough points to get in the final if he wants to get into that race.

I am pretty sure he gave up on that project it’s been a while! Now it’s all out with Decathlon (French brand) and it’s good thing!

I think the mindset is that Blanks, Fisher, and Young will all be doubling back from the 10k. Be there with 600 to go and maybe one or more will be fatigued and vulnerable. He knows he’s a long shot but it’s a reasonable strategy. If he gets top 3 he can chase a Q or maybe sneak in on points.

Rai Benjamin is probably the single most likely men’s athlete to get the US a fourth spot in an event. I don’t think Grant Fisher will try, and I don’t think Nico Young is quite ready to win the DL final.

Several US athletes have a chance in the women’s 200. Addy Wiley might have a chance in the 800. Tara Davis-Woodhall will probably get one in the long jump.
