Mohamed Attaoui produced one of the most popular performances of the European Team Championships so far, not only giving hosts Spain their only victory of the day, but also smashing the 800m championship record.
That’s a fair point. I just think as it’s his 1st major 800 in years, he’s definitely got the most room for growth in the coming weeks and think he’ll have got a lot out of today.
He also looked super strong at the finish which is only a good sign going forward. Maybe he hung back at the start as didn’t think he was in WR shape (which is essentially what they were going for). If this race was re-run in a week I think he’d be under 1:43.
While Brazier ran faster today than the PRs of Jonah Koech (1:43.32) and Brandon Miller (1:43.52) , I'm wondering if Miller is ready for a big one atUSAs after his recent 3:35 1500 pb.
As a former coach, I will say I find it wild that Miller will enter USAs with only 1 outdoor 800 race on his CV this year. He PRd in Rabat on May 25th and hasn't run an 800 since.
Brandon Miller's 3:35 is seriously being slept on. He's a 4x400m NCAA champion that was regularly running down guys with 44.X PRs and now he has a 3:35 where he led the race from ~900m.
I think there is a solid chance Brazier and Hoppel are fighting for 3rd.

I sure hope so but I wouldn’t bet on it. I think we will see 3 guys around 1:41.5 and I don’t know that Brazier will be capable of that this season. I could see him getting to 1:42 low to mid, maybe run a PB, which would be awesome.
Im getting excited to see if Mike Smith can get him on top of the world again by the time he’s 30.
No marks on WA profile since the 1:43.32 in Nairobi on May 31. Perhaps a really long block of training? You'd think he would get one more shakeout before USAs
I fear that Koech is either injured or something even worse has transpired.
JG covered Koech worries extensively in podcast last week. Indeed, seems worrying, but all explanations of lost race opportunity and focus on training seemed reasonable. Still, I’m surprised not at least running some smaller US race, of which there have been some.
As for Brazier vs. Miller. It’s not fair to Miller, but I’m so rooting for Brazier because of his past and his coming back. Miller’s 3:35 is great for an 800 guy, but remember Brazier’s seemingly effortless 3:34 some years ago
OK… also not fair, as that was years ago and Brazier may not have had time (likely has not!) to build up that strength again. So this 1500 talk is really all about who has the strength to navigate the rounds. And then there is also… who has the savvy to do it without hitting trouble and without overextending in the rounds.
Miller must have the edge on strength. Maybe Brazier on savvy?? We really don’t know. It’s going to be fascinating and awesome to watch. Whoever pulls through for top three, they will have earned it.

Just an awesome year for this.
Brazier is doped. He’s way over in the too good to be true column. Somone made made a big behind the scenes deal with Nike etc.
