Bol will be running for bronze at this year's World Champs. Love to see it. Syd, meanwhile, will be running for gold in the 400h and the 400 is she chooses to.
What a great way for Savannah to end her career at Michigan. It was a shame that Savannah was not eligible for NIL funds throughout her college years.
Hopefully now a shoe contract or similar sponsorship opportunity can advance her career even further.
Who knows… Maybe we will see a changing of the guard at the Olympics in Los Angeles. Perhaps the reign of Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and Femke Bol is coming to an end.
Does anyone remember when she came out of nowhere at NCAAS a few back. That was crazy. Go Canada. Go Blue.
Sutherland is the closest parallel to Bol. She doesn't have the flat speed upside. But in terms of how she runs 400 hurdles it's very similar to Bol, a measured tactical approach.
She even uses the same stride pattern Bol had in early 2021, other than Bol prefers left lead and Sutherland right lead. The basics are identical...15 steps through 8 then 16 on 9 and 10. Bol used that tactic until one month prior to Tokyo, when she managed 15 on 9 and 10 for the first time.
Sydney is miles clear. The interesting thing about Bol is that her new stride pattern makes it very easy for her to go 52 low or mid but I'm not sure how she plans to find another second or more. Steve Cram called Dalilah briefly in the lead midway between 6 and 7. That was correct. That hurdle is the biggest challenge for Bol. She now has reverted to 15 steps on 7 compared to 14 the past two years. It means she has to measure herself and loop wide around the turn to make room for that additional step while angling favorably for her left lead.
Sydney will blow right past her at that point, if it hasn't happened already. In Paris Sydney didn't run past Bol until midway between 7 and 8.
Savannah broke Syds collegiate record, syd was already olympic level at that point and anointed. Good fist step for Sutherland if you ask me. Can't believe she went 52 mid.
Syd has raced 6 times this outdoor season while Bol has raced 5 times. Syd raced 15 times last outdoor season. Nice try at distorting facts, though.
Good point. She did used to run the both-cancelled LAGP and NYGP. So what does she race now I wonder? Kersee clearly doesn’t like racing in Europe ahead of USAs.

Sydney was 18 years old when she set that collegiate record in her freshman year of college.
Sutherland is 21 years old.
Sydney was 16 years old when she attended the Rio Olympics.
Sutherland was 20 years old when she attended the Paris Olympics
The comparison and correlation you are trying to draw between the two is poor if not somewhat bizarre.

Its really simple, since you made my point for me. A record is a record, syd was already world class and SS has broke that record. 21 isnt exactly old for the 400H if that's what you are suggesting. SM got there quicker, great. Good for her.
The other question is will Sydney run the hurdles in Tokyo, or will she attempt the flat (or even double)? She now has two Olympic titles, a World title, the WR...is she really that motivated to run sub 50, or is another challenge on the horizon? It will all come down to how much Kersee thinks a gold medal is secured. We know he likes to make history.
I would like to see Sydney go to that Appledorn or whatever the high altitude in the mountain is called later this year, and run the 400H in 49.4. Then move to the 200/400M permanently.
This would be awesome. What else would she have left to prove in the 400h? Would love to see her take an honest stab at the 400 flat.

Judging from your posts, you must secretly be trying to draw out goodwill for Sydney. All of your posts have even her worst critics coming here to defend her.
There's no other purpose someone would suggest an athlete is 'cooked' when their competitors are 2 seconds behind.

Where does this 2 seconds behind come from? Bol's 50.95 was ratified as the official Euro record and altitude assisted times are not ratified, so it's legit as well as the 51.30 she ran at London as well as the 51.45, 51.70 and 51.98 she ran two years ago. Her two fastest are less than a second behind and none of her sub 52's are two seconds behind. She yet to go backwards in her improvement curve so why do people think she's not going to be faster? Get your numbers straight.

Somehow, for the second year in a row, the Pre Classic doesn’t have a women’s 200, 400 or 400 hurdles. Not even in the promotional events.
Within the US that pretty much leaves the Ed Murphey Classic in Memphis or the Sunset Tour LA. Both are July 12 though.

Only an idiot could claim the point was made for them. Carry on...

She would have nothing left to prove for the 400H. I would like to see her test herself against Paulino in the 400M while both are in their prime.
Even the hater has to hedge now. Just holding out hope for that one race where eventually Syd won’t win.
Used to be more of an argument that Femke was better. Now it’s just praying for undefeated Father Time to come sooner rather than later. OP has admitted defeat.

I wouldn't says "somehow." They don't have a marquee 400m hurdler on the women's side. Or they didn't think they did, but now Dalilah looks pretty dang good. But I believe that is why. Same reason they don't have a Men's 800, which would be a Wanyonyi/Hoppel/Arop showcase.
When Sutherland defeated Britton Wilson in the NCAA final two years ago it was considered a huge upset. At the time I remember thinking that Sutherland had great technique but didn't have high upside because she looked too heavy and not a natural athlete.
However, her athletic profile is not bad at all. This winter she ran 23.2 indoors and 51.2. I saw her at Virginia Beach, where she made the NCAA 400 final and finished 4th.
Bol at the same age was running 50.6 indoors. But in the Netherlands indoors is a big deal. Bol had contested the national indoor championships since her mid teens.
Sutherland narrowly defeated Rachel Glenn at 400 hurdles in Gainesville a couple of months ago. Glenn is the next hurdler who logically should go under 53. But Glenn has a seemingly more logical path as a high jumper. Other than Anna Hall, no American has cleared higher than 1.91 outdoors this year. Even though she bombed late and blew the NCAA indoor title to Georgia's Kulichenko, I didn't think there was any question that Glenn has more raw ability and upside. She has already cleared 2 meters. These days that number wins Diamond League meets.
It really wasn't any bigger deal in the Netherlands than in the rest of Europe until Bol started running (close to) WR times. The Netherlands is a small country and they're usually not that nationalistic, but because the chances of having a world class athlete are so small in a country of ~16 million people, they show up to support if they have one.

My sincerest apologies for not remembering Bol’s altitude-assisted time.
I was referring to the 2 seconds behind she was during the last time they raced each other: The 2024 Olympics.
As was pointed out earlier, the “she never races anymore” argument no longer holds true. She has raced more than Bol this season and she raced 15 times last season.
Are you dense? There’s no need to answer, that was a rhetorical question.
