Young and Blanks are both equally good at 10000m and it’s likely Young is currently capable of setting another AR at the distance. Just about every 5/10 runner has PRs that match up to the two times plus a minute conversion. The difference in pace is only 10 seconds per mile so it requires the same skill set for both distances. That’s why there have been double wins at championships and guys simultaneously holding both WRs.
I disagree, and also want to shout out Sam Gilman as an upset contender.
On Blanks, yes he led some of that 10,000 but I think he is leagues better at 5000 than Kipkurui/Samuel/Wildschuutu in my eyes. And those guys easily beat him in the Ten. For Nico, I see him as a possible medalist in the 5,000 whereas I’d be wary in the 10.000 as I think Barega, Aregawi, Fisher, Ebenyo, Kejelcha all stack up quite well against him,
Won’t the guys you listed be doubling back and plus you can include Ingebrigtsen? As for The Ten, that was almost 3 months ago. I vaguely remember he was injured between XC and track. His two NCAA XC wins don’t make you think he’s pretty good at the distance?

I would put Grant as more of a lock than anyone else if they are all doubling back(whether from the 10 or the 15) because he won 2 us titles last year, 2 Olympic medals and then set 2 world records in February 5 days apart from each other. He has shown many times that he knows how to recover and can be strong for multiple races in a row.
Obviously Nico, and Graham, have taken a big step this year and maybe they will be fine doubling as well but wouldn’t be shocked if one of them doesn't recover as well(if it’s a super slow 10k race than this probably doesn’t matter. personally hoping Mantz or someone pushes it at least a little).
Cole was 7th last year and not even close to making the 5k after the 15.
Cooper should only run the 5k. If he’s not fresh he does not have a chance.
How could anyone confidently say that Grant is a lock? He scratched from the Philly 3k because of a hamstring issue. For all we know, he hasn’t been training since then. With Nico, Blanks, Nur, Strand, Hocker, Gilman, Wolfe (?), Kincaid, and others capable of sub-13 in the field, there is little room for error.
If anything, I’d consider Nico more of a lock than Grant right now. There is just too much of a question mark about Grant’s health.
Someone's probably already started a post on this, but can we honestly call Fisher is a lock for 5k right now? Cause after him dropping out of Philly and Nico/Blanks' performance today, I personally cannot confidently say that he's a lock.
Well he is up against Nico Young and Possibly Yared Negusse, and a few others. My thoughts he is going to have to go through the Grindr for a spot. I am thinking he is either going to take the top or be sandwiched between Nico and Yared!

Grant is a lock if he is in good shape at the trials
