There is an addition to the article at the top that indicates Kemboi's NCAA 10000m championship was later vacated due to rules infractions, but I could not find any article indicating why.
I heard the same thing from a friend of the coach. Apparently there was something going on with academics. They didn't share any details beyond that, so take it for what it's worth.
Not drugs. She continued to compete regularly since. Ran Falmouth two months after NCAAs, raced in March, May, June, August, October, and November in 2024, and has raced twice in 2025. Clearly no ban.
I'm sure it was some NCAA violation regarding recruiting, academic requirements, etc. Probably discovered that she wasn't eligible to compete in spring 2023 and forced her to vacate the title. She already has a qualifier for USATFs in the 10000m so I'm sure she will be there.
As an additional data point, the live NCAA website shows Kemboi as the winner of the 2023 10k with no footnote, etc. So what is the actual status of this?
