That was an incredible finish! Saw it live in the stadium. On the screen he was a good 5-6 seconds back at the bottom of the hill, 3 sec back coming into the stadium but you could see that Ebenyo was struggling.
Re: Lindsay, he was about 5'8" and 150 when he raced. Not big but not a skinny waif. Klecker is taller 5'11" or 6" maybe 160 or 165?
It was during a 10k circa 2012. Larry Rawson was commenting how Teg was going to kick hard and nail a guy from behind. the board exploded when that happened.
Thanks for the heads up Malmo. I was totally wrong it would appear. I saw a photo of him when he was racing Viren on the roads in a Runners World magazine back in the day and he looked of similar physique to Klecker. Fine runner none the less.
Not sure the exact altitude of the race itself but a 28:21 10k at 5430 ft (Boulder altitude) converts to 27:08 at sea level, and that doesn't take account of the hills. He's certainly in sub-27 10k track shape.
BB is contrived to make it easier for Americans win, for team money if not individual. Mantz still had to earn it, but without appearance fees he didn't have to face a real field of top road 10K competitors.
Daniel Abenyo seems to have decent 10k experience. Also has run 59:10 1/2 M on the roads. Who did you want to see to make this more legitimate? Sheesh...

I’ve been following this thread and it’s truly fascinating and it really has me questioning Goodge whereas before I never really did.
A question I do have is, a couple of times people on this thread have posted about running with WG, and have clarified they showed up without the crew or WG knowing. I’ve also seen similar claims on Instragram and Strava. Every time they’ve found WG running, it’s never been anyone else? So my question is -
Is this simply a coincidence, that people have shown up unannounced and found WG through the tracker, and every time he’s been running? They’ve never found the car driving with him inside, and they’ve never found someone else running instead? Maybe that is a coincidence, but that’s sort of what makes me thing he’s telling the truth.
Surely just once when someone shows up unannounced they would find him cheating?
I think Frank Shorter was incorrect in some of his commentary. He stated 4:30 pace was a 29:00 finish time. Then he kept saying the leaders were going even splits at 4:30 pace when it was clearly a positive split effort and they were much faster than 4:30 initially.
I thought his altitude discussion was good. His historical perspective was great (talking about Joe Klecker's elite running parents and comparing Bachelor to that guy who won the A wave). Even though he was off on the race splits -- I appreciated him talking about it in detail (take note Kara Goucher....it's not always about human interest fluff!).
He was also out on the course just cheering during the citizens race (which started several hours earlier). I saw him at ~3 miles (I think) by himself clapping as we went by. It was cool to have that support going both ways!

But he DID walk down the 2023 WORLD 10,000m silver medalist and ran way from three strong Ethiopians.
