Only way they will get a crowd is if they give away tickets for free. The Rabat Diamond League tomorrow is free admission for EVERYONE; they do not sell tickets. They will have an outstanding crowd.
What a shame we are only going to see these boys race once instead of twice next weekend. The other categories are fine - Giles is a good add to short distance on top of Hoey/Kessler, but Long Distance Men is shaping up to be a very fun one. Fisher still the favorite, but he'll have to work for it. Makes me even more disappointed they only have half the purse on the line as all the other events.
This thing still exists? 💀
Imagine being mad at a track league for no reason but still wanting to post on a running board lol💀
If they were only running one longer distance race they should have split the difference between 3k and 5k by racing over one 4k.
As a non-standard distance a 4k would have emphasized the competition and racing more than the time, as no one would know what a good 4k time is.
To make up for potential lost payment opportunity to distance competitors in one event, and to encourage the pace to be honest, they could have awarded additional cash to every competitor that came through 1k, 2k and 3k under a certain time standard and additional cash for the top 3 runners at each of those intermediate distances.
The format for 3k/5k just sucks. Distance races with only 8 people and no pacer in them are terribly boring. You either get the men jogging a 14 flat 5k or you get a race like the women where they’re all spaced out 5-10 seconds and not really racing.
Wouldn't have taken much imagination or time to arrange.
The only problem is that it would result in some awful races. I don’t think you gave it much thought. The guys that can run fast in the 800 and 1000 are going to suck in the 3000, and the 3000 guys are going to stink it up in 800/1000.
Well, I gave it enough thought to give a solution that keeps the "double" concept alive. I would enjoy watching the distance guys go 1000/3000 or 1500/3000. It has some novelty to it and you keep the double alive and the prize money alive. Perfect is the enemy of good for these organizers. Taking away the double is a step backward because it's going toward a traditional model that they said they don't want.
where have you been last couple weeks? under the rock? Had to inform you, the last meet in Miami was actually a sell out.
What was that like 5000 seats (if that). If the Phili stop on GST gets 5000 people a day it will still look empty in Franklin Field. Hope you are not expecting Penn Relays size crowds. That will definitely not happen
I think an interesting double would be 800/1000 - 2000/3000. I agree with previous posters it's a shame with the field they now have that they're not doing the 5000.
So for the women's short hurdles group: Camacho-Quinn is still injured, just as Samba-Mayela (who was initially announced to open her season at GST Miami). Masai Russell, who ran a new the US record last meet, is now also reported to be injured by GST ...
Other reported injuries by GST: Oblique Seville, Roshawn Clarke, Devon Allen and Grijalva.
I am looking forward to seeing how fast SML can go over the short sprints. I'm thinking 12.5 for the 100MH and 11.16 for the 100M.
