I don't even remember how it came up, but she said something about it and then called me a conspiracy theorist for believing Covid 19 came from the Wuhan Lab. I said it wasn't something "I believed" per se, but that the FBI, CIA, and US Department of Energy all did their own independent investigations into this and all concluded it was the most likely origin of the virus outbreak, though results were less than definitive. She got mad and more or less dismissed it as meaningless and said something indicating she didn't care what any of those reports said.
This whole thing really caught me off guard. I didn't realize people didn't know this? How are people this ignorant in 2025 when it takes less than a minute to look into stuff like this?
Also, maybe a different thread entirely, but has anyone else noticed that liberal women seem to not base any of their thinking on actual facts at all? I know this will probably anger some people, but I've historically been a left leaning moderate, and this is something I've been noticing more and more in recent years, that liberal women in particular seem to be both almost unbelievably ignorant of facts as well as totally impervious to them when deciding what to think. It's been really odd.
Have you learned a class called statistical inference? It has all the answers you are looking for.

I am a statistician, actually, so yes, I understand statistical inference. I'm not sure what that has to do with anything I wrote, unless you're trying to imply something about level of confidence, which I stated was less than definitive.
So OP, are you going to respond to some of the balanced responses here that stated that the girl calling you a conspiracy theorist for having your viewpoint was not necessarily fair, BUT.... That the majority of top experts who study such viruses heavily lean towards the view that your viewpoint is incorrect...??
I can't blame you for having fallen into the trap That you are in because it is true that most of the public now believes the lab leak theory. And of course, the trump administration is heavily invested in pushing this angle. Heck, even the new york times published a much criticized, and mostly debunked op-ed that strongly argued that the lab leak is the only explanation.
But that is not the viewpoint of the majority of top experts in the field.
And in fact, while you cited certain u s intelligence agencies as supporting the lab lesk theory, in actuality, the majority of the u s governmental agencies had supported natural spillover from the market. That tally may have changed now that Trump is in charge, but that was the reality at least until Recently.

I think it's weird that you made up this whole story just so you could convince people on the internet that you talked to a girl.

The hard-core Libbies won't believe or acknowledge something, then when confronted with irrefutable facts, they slide into ignorance or name calling. That delusion is exactly why the media, instituion and political leaders take advantage of manipulating and grooming their small minds--and they don't even realize it!
We're too busy looking for those WMDs in Iraq. And the missing/stolen voter ballots from the 2020 election. And searching for those immigrants who are eating all the dogs and cats. Among other things.

Well, then you understand that the level of confidence is related to what your hypothesis is. In that sense, saying “we cannot exclude wuhan lab leak from covid origin investigation” is a totally different statement than “covid is originated from wuhan lab leak”. The politicians will try every way to muddy the water, but like you said, the evidence is less than definitive. Which is saying that “covid is originated from wuhan lab leak” is a theory, a strong hypothesis, or a belief, but it is not a fact. At least not yet unless someone presents stronger evidence. When you state your belief as a fact, your girlfriend is right to call you out as a lunatic.

I never said it's a fact, numbnuts. Learn how to read.

You are indeed pathetic. You never said it’s a fact, but you also said “it wasn't something "I believed" per se”, and quoted FBI, CIA, and Department of Energy to substantiate your claim. When you were called out correctly, you blamed your girlfriend as “has anyone else noticed that liberal women seem to not base any of their thinking on actual facts at all?”, and used a name “facts aren’t political” before saying, oh by the way, I never said it’s a fact.

The lab leak crowd have correctly pointed out that most of the top experts have an incentive to support a zoonosis hypothesis over a lab leak one. This makes it hard to trust anybody on the issue.
iirc there were even emails among top experts about how best to suppress dissenting opinions
I will continue to beat the drum that most people who are “certain” about lab leak stopped reading new evidence in 2022 or so.
The data favors zoonosis at this time. Maybe 70/30.
The irony of all this is that those people who are "convinced" that COVID came from a lab leak don't realize that Trump removed the moratorium on Gain of Function Research in the USA that the Obama administration had put in place to avoid such a thing from happening. So apparently.... at the time.... Trump and his followers weren't too worried about any "lab leaks" occuring..
And lets not forget about Trump essentially disassembling the Pandemic team that the previous administration had set up for the exact scenario that occurred. And yes, I know that Trumper's deny that he actually did this.

What is interesting is that both sides tend to ignore unbiased facts and believe the narrative of the party they follow. For example: most information suggests Covid was a lab leak. Also most information proves Jan 6 was supported and done by Trump supporters. Do you believe both those things, or do you support party narratives?

Yup if you’re convinced it was a lab leak then Trump is effectively singularly culpable.
a “girl” called you a conspiracy theorist? yeah right you mean your 83 year old mom when she brought you down your Swanson salisbury steak tv dinner after you turned the volume down on fox to rant to her about the liberals
