She'll do a Katrin Krabbe ala 1991, when the German opened with a number of mediocre runs over 100m, losing to Perec, Privalova & others, but came back in Tokyo and win a medal. Same preparation, same city, same outcome..
Something seems off here. The fluctuation in Sha'Carri's times seems like a statistical outlier. Like, to the point it raises red flags.
How does an elite 100m runner have almost a full second of spread between min and max times. That doesn't even seem believable at a high school level.
There have always been huge fluctuations in her performances every single year.
2019: She ran 10.7 in college then didn't make the USA team for Worlds.
2021: Instead of going to the Tokyo Olympics and competing in the relay to gain the experience on the biggest of stages, she decided to stay home and throw shade. She then entered the wrap up race in Eugene and ran 11.14 after running 10.7 in one of her USA qualification races a month or two earlier.
2023: After pb at Worlds in 10.65, ran 10.80 for 4th place at the wrap up Diamond League race in Eugene a few weeks later.
2024: After running 10.70 or 10.71 to qualify for the USA team, then ran 10.8 high at the Olympics. In the Diamond League final in Brussels a few weeks later, she ran 11.23 for last place.
Her lack of consistency is concerning to me. I don't know why the lack of consistency, but I am saddened that someone so magnificently talented is squandering her talent. She should have been dominating the 100M sprints by now and running 10.5s - 10.6s to low 10.7s consistently.
I was gonna lift some weights until I got high (ooh) I was gonna get up and train, but then I got high (la-la-ta, ta-ta-ra-ra) My starts are messed up, and I know why (why? Man) 'Cause I got high, because I got high, because I got high (la-la-ta, ta-ta-ra-ra)
There was only one winner. EVERYONE else "lost," not just Richardson.
Give the girl a break.
Sha'Carri wasn't the only one who lost that race, but she's the only reigning 100m World Champion who lost that race. It's more newsworthy for Sha'Carri to lose a race like that than it is for Manaka Miura.
And it's not just that Sha'Carri lost; it's how slow she ran and who beat her. Finishing behind Tee Tee Terry is understandable because she was an Olympic finalist last year. But it's surprising to see Sha'Carri (and Terry) lose to Bree Rizzo and to see Sha'Carri getting beat by Sade McCreath too.
Rizzo herself admitted she was surprised to win:
"The first thing my sister texted me was, 'Your face just looked so shocked!'," Rizzo said. "[I was thinking], 'What the hell? I just won'. I didn't expect to win that race."
Rizzo also said: "I really look up to those athletes so to come out on top was pretty exciting for an Australian athlete."
I agree we shouldn't make a huge deal out of an early season loss, but it's not nothing.
but more seriously they called everyone back after they first fired the gun and gave SCR a green card (never seen that before) so she was probably a bit frazzled mentally
the second time around it looks like she panicked and stood up early after 7 steps because the Asian girl to her left had an amazing reaction to the gun
she also eased up at the line. Hopefully not injury related (commentator mentioned her calf sleeve and seeing her in it at grand slam)
honestly a slow meet on the sprint side of things (100/200). Might be time to get one of those fancy new surfaces they have at the armory
but yes 11.4 for a runner of her caliber is pretty slow

Cuz she was high
