Thanks, almost wish I hadn't taken this test, feeling more lost than found. Here's just my personal experience, take a look and see your thoughts after reading:
Treadmill runs:
Easy: 10km/hr (5:00) treadmill is where I had been doing most of my long runs and feels like walking. 1 hour of this and heart BPM average is 131, never getting over 136.
What I thought was speed: I had thought 15km/hr (4:00) treadmill was my highest speed possible. I can do that pace for 40 mins without stopping, in the first half my heart BPM is in mid 160s and in second half it creeps up to 170, but only goes over 170 in last 5 minutes to around 174. I consider it a challenging pace, but not pushing me to the absolute limit.
Intervals: I just started doing intervals two weeks ago of 18kms/hr (3:20) for 2 mins followed by 2 mins rest. Usually 5 of these and heart BMP is 170-175, but it feels controlled and not crazy. And then after this, 20kms/hr (3:00) for 1 min followed by 2 mins rest. 5 of these and heart BMP is 170-175. Feels tough, but not out of control.
After the test, I started running 12km/hr (5:00) treadmill to see, and that is super comfortable, will maintain 151 BMP easy for over 1 hour.
Also tried 13km/hr (4:37) treadmill to see, and after about 20 mins I'm in 155 BPM territory, and can maintain that an hour easy in low 160s. This pace feels just great, like I can go on forever, talk casually, and it's not boring. Feels like being in the zone.
Outside runs:
Last month, half marathon in 1:45 (trail, street, hills, rain, difficult terrain)
3 weeks ago, 5k trail run with 100 meter gain in 21:38 (was difficult and pushed hard). 1km was 140bmp
2km was 155bmp
3km was 166bmp
4km was 168bmp
5km was 172bmp
Last month, 5k street run pretty flat in 20:06 (pushed it hard).
1km was 134bmp
2km was 152bmp
3km was 153bmp
4km was 166bmp
5km was 173bmp
Don't know if anyone has thoughts just based on these real data numbers?
