Lex Young seems to have taken very well to the 10k. Maybe that shouldn't be surprising given he was the HS 5k record holder, and Nico's success at the 10k. Idk maybe I'm just surprised he isn't running better at shorter distances. After his 27:48 with a 13:4x last 5k, he ran 13:40 and 13:35 in his next 2 races. Now he's 2nd in the ACC 10k, kinda getting his doors blown off by Parker Wolfe, but closer to Wolfe than 3rd place was to him. Wolfe is probably a top 20 guy in the world though, so great for Lex. Also Lex won his first steeple race a couple weeks ago, is he planning on running it at ACCs? I'd love to see someone tackle the 10k/steeple double lol I don't think I've seen it before.
Also semi unrelated but I just read about the GST changes, and I feel like NCAA track is a way better product than GST or the Diamond League or really anything besides the Olympics/maybe Worlds, and I don't feel that way with the NBA/NFL (although I'm a very casual fan of them). You get tons of teams racing basically every 2 weeks from Jan-March, April-June, and Sept-Nov. You have the teams tied to specific locations aspect of other sports leagues, but instead of teams competing 1v1, you throw 15-30 people onto a track and see who wins. Plus it's easier for individual stars to shine, because unlike other team sports, it's clear who the best person is in each competition: the person who wins. And also, people like Mu, Hocker, Garcia Romo, Nico Young, Blanks, Wolfe, and plenty more have shown that you can race dozens of times per year in the NCAA and still be competitive at Worlds/Olys. Plus there's cross country, which everyone loves. And you get stuff like conference weekend and regionals that's analogous to the NBA playoffs (or at least more analogous than anything else in T&F).
I'm kinda yapping but I'm just so much more excited to see a bunch of college kids essentially run prelims than to watch GST that it makes me think they're going the complete wrong way with the league.
