It’s not gutsy. It’s desperation born out of the knowledge that pushing the pace is his only chance of winning. If Jakob could win a 1500 the same way he wins the 5000, he would.
There’s a lot courage involved. That’s why’ll you’ll never see Kerr, Nuguse, Hocker and others take the lead from the start or even halfway in a major championship. Never.
No. Kerr and Hocker don't do it because they have faith in their kicks. Yared doesn't need to do it if Jakob is there. Yared would probably do it if Jakob wasn't there like he did at the US trials.
Jakob has no chance of winning a sit and kick 1500 like Kerr and Hocker do. His only chance of winning is to push the pace. That's why he does it.
I think you are a 100% wrong here… (Because you clearly haven’t paid attention to what Jakob has stressed in his interviews, and probably because of a too strong bias as a hater).
My guesses is that Jakob would have done a sit and kick in the 1500m (or at least not a front running) if this mid distance was scheduled post 5000m (because of not being fully rested). But as long as the 1500m comes prior, he will (and according to his own saying) try to win dominantly and «honourably». Also because he thinks front running is the best tactics. And I agree -the only problems seem to be misjudging the pace, and that his competitors «agree» in sliding without fighting into his draft and therefore only gaining…
Jakob doesn’t voluntarily race the 5000m global champs the way he does. -He wants to race them as fast as possible, contributing and honest. Like he did as an exception in WC 2022. But he couldn’t follow thar recipe in 2023 because of sickness, and neither in OG 2024 where he doubled, and was very on his toes because of the pace screw up in the 1500m, but first and foremost because he met a well rested Gebrhiwet.
If Jakob thinks the "honorable" way to win the 1500 is to lead why doesn't he think the same for the 5k? Does "honor" not matter in longer distances? Only winning?
Bingo! The honor explanation is horse crap. If it was about honor, then he'd run the 5000 the same way he does the 1500. He literally took a water break in the middle of the WC 2022 5000.
Jakob just talks about honor in the 1500 because his ego is too big to confess that his motivation for leading is lacking faith in his kick. It's hilarious his gullible fanboys buy his talk about honor. Where was his honor in tailing Cheruiyot in Tokyo?
The person who has the best kick doesn't need to lead. If Jakob raced a 1500 against only the guys he beats in the 5000, he wouldn't lead the whole thing because in that setting his kick would be the best. That's what it's all about.
Agreed. Stark contrast from the 5k, where he's not the star of the show till well into the last lap. I find it so funny how he says he wants to win the 1500m from the front to show how much better he is than everyone else, but he is peak sit and kick in the 5k lol.
I think people just like to see gusty performances, and Jakob has them more than anyone else because he's always pushing the pace. Also why it's so fun to watch guys like Nico Young, who visibly enter the pain cave 400m into any race, yet somehow manage to speed up every lap.
Did he really say he wanted to show how much better he is than everyone else? Do you have a link? I’ve never seen a championship 5000m where the guy with the best leg speed sets the pace. Ingebrigtsen’s gold is proof that he is better than everyone else at that distance.
I don’t know why you brought up Nico Young. He’s a great runner but usually does not front run. I couldn’t find 400m splits, but I don’t think he sped up for the last lap in Paris.

Nuguse led from the start at US Trials last year. He didn’t lead at the Olympic final because Jakob ran the first 200 in 26.
Jakob has a way wider frame with much more drag than the Africans of the 5k race. His 1500m competitors are just guys who would run 2-3% slower than Jakob in every race if there were equal drafting advantage for every racer

Ha! Jakob isn’t forced to lead. Tell him to try something different next time if he wants to have an “equal drafting advantage.” 🤣

Jakob stressed post WC 2022 5000m that it was important to him to win the event in an honourable way. But that year is the only time he did so -yes, he clearly swallows some camels when he has to…

He clearly wants to run the 5000m the way he runs the 1500 and 3000m -winning by out running his competitors. (Which he by the way did in 2022, despite the drink). But conditions will sometimes make this difficult. So he then chooses plan B.

Kicker doesn't exist. There isn't person who has the best kick. It's different from race to race, many factors have an influence here. It's all in the training, the preparation, the readiness, the biorhythm, and then the innate kick.

Jakob has been routinely outkicked in outdoor global championship 1500s (and the mile - Prefontaine) for several years now. So several runners have a better kick than he does over that distance.
