Exactly. And Bubka claims he jumped the 6.40 in practice but we'll never know because of the way he chose to move his records up. It All falls on him now but I'm sure he can go to sleep at night on his his millions he made in the sport and be comfortable with that.
Sorry, dude. Duplantis is the hereditary wizard king of the bouncy men, and he who breaks the spirit stick shall lay a curse upon thy nation for all eternity.
also, join TEAM USA, or be banished to Scandinavia forever
I am sure he has a Green Card to work (In his case Train in the USA) I think he should be able to stay in the USA as long as he wants, he is not and probably never will be a Criminal.
He is a US citizen, dude. He was born in Louisiana.
Sure, he’s getting a bonus for every record but I’m less cynical in thinking that the increases have to be incremental based on learning a new pole for each height. He can’t simple jump to the biggest pole ever made and add a meter to the height. He’d get hurt. What good does that do anybody?

what good does jumping with a stick ever do anyone? For height at least.
pole vaulting was invented to cross streams in marshy boglands like Holland or England. It wasn't invented to jump over tall things, and that would never work in the real world.
Pole vault is not a real sport. Nobody should be allowed to make money at it.
It matters to literally noone how high someone can jump using a long stick. That's why someone who grew up the son of an elite vaulter knows about 10 times as much about it as anyone else.
World Athletics needs to drop the pole vault. This is one great thing about Grand Slam Track. It's about the racing, not these silly contests on the infield.
You'd think in a sport as poor as Track and Field people would understand that an athlete is worth what people are willing to pay them. Mondo puts more butts in seats than most athletes, has a strong fanbase across multiple continents and is always performing at a high level. He is a way better investment than 99% of athletes in any other event.
While sometimes field events can seem boring, I thought the way Mondo finished out the WC in Eugene was the epitome of what's great about track and field. The entire meet was already over and it was just Mondo left, jumping for the world record. He broke the WR, ran off the mat to the track, did a standing backflip and exuberant celebration while the stadium went nuts. What a perfect ending to a great meet!
I don't HATE this take...there has never been a modern athlete that has had to face the problem of incrementally improving their WR.
IMO, if you are so much better than everyone else in the world at what you do, you kinda get to use the rules however you want. Don't like it? Be better at pole vault

For some odd perspective, many high schoolers can long jump 6.20m although it still looks high when you are looking up it!

As a middle distance and distance runner this is an absolutely terrible idea. Despite them not being my main watched events, I did not think it was a good idea for gst to shunt field. It would have filled up the empty boring filler that is sometimes present now very well. There is plenty of time for field events in there. ALSO, if people start thinking like this, we start getting distance only meets, or sprints only, or field only. I love the way everything comes together when they are not separated, and hope they stay together. ALL the events matter, and if we neglect one, they all suffer

It would be interesting if someone reported how many poles he used in an average competition. Or when he switches poles. I'm generally aware of the idea of different stiffnesses. Different lengths seems fairly intuitive. It's probably a bit too subtle or complex for tv commentary but it would be cool if each person's pole length and stiffness was reported during the competition. And of course the units of stiffness aren't relatable like the units of height/distance or weight. But even a qualitative discussion of stiffness would be interesting.
It'd also be cool if they had an exhibition jumps meet where they did the following:
- HJ / PV - no bar - develop a technology to measure the peak height that the entire body clears. Takeoff has to happen on the traditional runway with a traditional box and landing has to happen on the traditional pit. It'd have to be some kind of a laser that scans each jump.
- TJ/LJ - no takeoff board - measure the total distance jumped regardless of takeoff location. Takeoff has to happen on the traditional runway and landing has to happen in the typical pit. A form of this is already being discussed, obviuosly
Olympic champion Malaika Mihambo is open to trying out the wider zone from the traditional jumping board at the ISTAF Indoor event on Sunday 9 February.
The pole vault is not a sport. Have you ever seen a Panda vault with a bamboo trunk? No, because it's just a made up filler event. No human does this outside of an athletics track.
It's similar to the triple jump. How is that a jump when your feet touch the ground twice?

I am sure he has a Green Card to work (In his case Train in the USA) I think he should be able to stay in the USA as long as he wants, he is not and probably never will be a Criminal. He does not cause trouble, In fact he makes people happy by entertaining them, I am fine with Immigrants like him and Bernard Lagat (Now a Citizen) living in the USA, They are Solid Good People, Also Mondo has USA Roots his Father is American and Represented The USA in the Pole Vault, and he went to High School and College in the USA, so he is assimilated to the USA Culture, Though he is a Swedish Citizen, USA will NOT have a War with Sweden, so there is no conflict of allegiance with him. THERE is ZERO reasons for him to be banished from the USA.

Breakdancing. Don't get me started on that.
Running 26.2 miles. What the hell? Why not 25? Or just 26? Marathon's not a real sport by your logic.
Sports are entertainment. They're not meant to make sense. And you can always just not watch them.
Either make a serious world record attempt or get banned for a year and have your pole snapped in half. Stop trying to increase it by a cm each time or whatever.
Was going to downvote the logic, but the creativity of snapping his pole made me laugh.
