I think that is an idiotic take, because the casual viewer can just click away and come back when the meet starts.
Would be pretty wild if she loses her $10k simply for not being able to manage hydration in a warm environment. This isn't her first season and she's not running long events. Some parts of Kenya have very mild temps due to elevation but it's not like she hasn't competed in much hotter locations.

Yeah, that's definitely a fake reason. Likely she's feeling crappy for some other reason like an illness and are just picking an easy excuse

They need to find a medium where it's maybe 15 mins before instead of 5 seconds before like Diamond League where they barely have time to call out three people on the line just as the gun goes off. I mean, that's fine for a 5,000 where they can talk up people the first third. But for a 1500 I want a whole to-do like the way the Olympics does with the 100m.
I fully get having some time to introduce the athletes and provide some context for the viewer but people watching established brands like the Olympics and DL know what they're in for. With something new like gst they need to hook the audience before they dive into long form off the track stuff..in my opinion. I kinda get the point of getting the backstory out of the way early because putting it in the middle would suck for the in venue audience but there's gotta be a better way.

A casual viewer is scrolling through peacock for something to watch and seeing gst, a thing they don't recognize. They think hm, I liked track during the Olympics let's try this. They click on it, watch 5-10 minutes of nothing, get bored, and move on to something else. Gst hasn't given them a reason to come back.

This would require the mythical casual track viewer to look up the event schedule online. They should throw up a countdown clock on the broadcast.

Dehydration could easily be a euphemism for diarrhea.
Track and Field just isn't popular enough in America to warrant a 3 hour telecast. these long previews and slow motion videos of the athletes are ponderous and redundant. this whole telecast should be an hour and a half - even if it means a little editing to squeeze the events tighter together.
they should do what NBC does with Millrose. they get right to the running, one event after another.
Watching Day 2 on CW, so far they've only shown bad slo-mo replays of the sprints yesterday. They've got enough time that they should just show complete replays.
