Luke MF Houser - Luke Houser has a world championship medal

Houser is likely a guy that could run in the 3:30-3:32 range outdoors, but imo he should give the steeple or 5k a try just to see if he has a good backup event.

He was second in the PAC-12 cross country meet behind another world indoor bronze medalist, Ky Robinson, so clearly he has some good upper aerobic potential

Finished the last mile of a 10 mile progression run in 5:20 recently

I think it will be hard for people to get excited about Houser’s performances without knowing why he was kicked off Brooks Beasts.

History will not remember the "strength of the field." History remembers medals.

I love that it is 2025 and Haile Gebrselassie (ETH) still holds the WC record with his 7:34 when he went 2:33, 4:59 splits... largest margin of victory ever, pre-super shoes. These fools would not be able to hang.

Just about the race here, Houser was impressive, no matter what the race circumstances.

1. he got up there at the start, and wisely/luckily still had Prakel doing the lead work,

2. He stuck easily and efficiently, mostly on the rail,

3. Although he did start to lose contact a bit when Ingy/Nader/Gourley changed gears at 1000m, he then quickly woke up and by 1100m had efficiently reattached himself to top 5 group… still keeping to the rail.
4. At 1300m, he did try to push through turn in lane 2, but what could he do? Sure, would have been great to be on the rail, but no choice, instead made gutsy fight for relevance.

5. This is where it got really interesting. He surprised a lot of people by fighting up to 2nd at 1410m and I swear it was like he hit the mental forcefield when he saw Jacob… it really looked like he could have kept the foot on the gas and challenged him. In no way do I think could have beaten Jacob, but maybe Houser could have woken him earlier and as benefit, he might have kept Gourley at 3rd.

Whether or not that’s really how it happened for Houser, I can’t say… but it really looked that way. And if it did, who could blame a guy? … first time on world stage you realize, “oh $h&^, I am not supposed to pass Jacob.”

Pretty entertaining race for World Indoors. And very gutsy performance.

Kenya has very little history of indoor athletics. It's rare to see top Kenyan talent compete at any indoor meets. That's just how it is. Most Kenyans prefer the road or XC circuit in the winter. The best you're likely to see is some Kenyans from the NCAA. Ethiopia often sends its best to indoors but there aren't that many good Ethiopian 1500 runners on the men's side. This isn't new.

The steeple is such a painfully obvious weak link among US distance events currently. Houser's future could definetely be there.

If he goes up to 5K, he has to deal with Fisher, Blanks, Wolfe, Young, Nur, Teare, maybe Hocker, maybe Strand, Jacobs, maybe Kincaid, possibly even Murphy (already ran 13:10)

Meanwhile, Rooks is on another level, but Wilkinson and Corrigan's spots are both extremely up for grabs. Neither are clearly a level above anyone else in the nation

And that's how a less talented runner outperforms the stars... by actually racing!

Props to Prakel too if he was intentionally helping Houser in the first few laps. Team USA usually does a poor job of working together.

The U.S. is absolutely loaded at 1500m now and in the near future.

You've got Cole Hocker, Olympic gold and 3:27.65 OR, Yared Nuguse, Olympic bronze, 3:27/3:43, Hobbs Kessler 5th Olympics, Indoor bronze, 3:46.9i, Josh Hoey, 3:52 but also 1k AR indoors, 2:14/1:43i, Ethan Strand, 3:48i CR, Gary Martin, 3:48i, Tinoda Matsatsa, college 1k record and 3:53, Vincent Ciattei, 3:31, Nathan Green, 3:32/3:50, Cooper Teare, 3:32, Luke Houser, Indoor bronze, Abel Teffra, NCAA indoors champ, 3:52.44, Colin Sahlman 1:45/3:33/3:52.8, Nico Young 3:50, Joe Wascom, has made a team, 2xNCAA champ, Simeon Birnbaum, 3:52.8 as a soph, even throw in Owen Powell, 3:56 hs and Rheinhardt Harrison, 3:54i in very limited college action.

His Coach was in China. This is way more important than people think. It creates a quiet confidence and reassurance. This would not have happened if he was still with the Beasts.

This WIC was about as competitive as a WC/Oly semifinal. So Hauser ran well enough to make a final, which is significant.

This was a perfect meet for a guy like Henry Wynn’s to medal.

This was a great run for Luke, who has to have the best improvement arc of just about any season in history this indoors. As for what happened with the Beasts, no one knows. The only statements we have gotten officially was that he was let go for a "code of conduct violation." There was a long thread with lots of speculation but this was the only official statement Gault got from Brooks. Houser himself has only really said that he was let go and is trying to move forward with Atlanta Track Club.

On that thread, it was speculated that it was related so some Title IX violation at Washington that Brooks was not aware of. They found out and didn't like the optics so they let him go. But, it wasn't anything criminal or that would extend beyond the university so he just joined Atlanta. This is just speculation but seemed to make sense when laid out and is the best theory I've read on this, since Houser and Brooks just seem to be quiet on it and moving on.

I also want to point out that Citius Mag did not give Houser a post for his Bronze medal. Nearly everyone who medaled got a post about it (not just Americans) including Shelby but Houser was left out. This was kind of crazy to me as you had an American medaling and the major American running outlet only relegated him to a mention in the caption below Jakob's victory. Even Georgia Bell got her own post for her bronze. So what gives Chavez?

Heppenstall ran the 800 for Canada (really should be more of a 1500m guy) and is also with ATC. So Nohilly there not just for Houser.

Literally said this was the best chance for Ciattei and Wynne to medal at worlds, and they let Prakel and Houser take the spots when they weren't looking the best all season. Is nobody going to point out Houser had the momentum to nip Jakob at the line? He got bumped before the straight away. Don't think people are realizing Jakob would've probably lost that 1500m to a lot of people, somebody like Houser being that close is nuts. Kessler probably gets gold here in the 1500m, smh.
