She was the handpicked successor by the outgoing president. It’s not a stretch of the imagination to picture Bach doing whatever was necessary for her to be elected. Those lopsided vote counts are shady.

If your logic is correct then DEI is not the problem. Hetero white men like Bach who are corrupt are the problem.

Both corruption and DEI selection could be the problem. Corruption in the selection process, and DEI selection if the reason Bach mentored Coventry and championed her candidacy is because she’s a woman from Africa.
Silver lining to Seb Coe not winning/getting or making bribes with IOC delegates, he may be now free of the “political” maneuvers necessary to win the IOC top job and can refocus his efforts on Athletics.
Specifically, Kenya’s deplorable doping history. He knows what needs to be done and by doing so will send a strong message to the many other countries with rampant doping problems and free up AIU assets to look into Ethiopia and others.
Kenya and Ethiopia cannot be banned. You would have to be prove systemic doping exists. Its also obvious that there is far more testing going on in Kenya than in the US or Europe.
How else do you explain the fact that Micheal Saruni raced for years in America but was never busted. Then as soon as he went to compete in Kenya he was busted. What that ought to tell you is that there is no testing in America. Its all freestyle doping. But as soon as you go to Kenya you get tested.
What are you smoking?
Kenya has shown there is systemic doping. It’s the AIU that is catching their dopers.
Ethiopia… civil war is a bit of a hindrance and the AIU has only so much money to chase the dopers. Setting up a lab in Ethiopia will be costly but if Kenya is banned the AIU might be able to use those funds to set up shop.
a measure of Coe would be his acceptance among the IOC IAAF UK sporting authorities etc. anyone soundly rejected by these people, i would immediately assume that they were likely of high moral standard. I see Coe as a do gooder for his sport, a jock that is not an intellectual, but has artistic talent and ruthlessness which applies to politics, where he's quite functional in dealing with this often dodgy, corrupt, bureaucratic group. its like playing with pigs in the mud. he takes off his suit jacket, plays with them, has a shower, and goes home to listen to jazz piano. the point is Coe has enough good heart and dodgy corruption in him to be the perfect man for the job. I might do the same if I were him, except I played with pigs before and don't like the stink.
Absurd. The most difficult and complex part of the IOC job is managing the competing interests of multiple countries. Coventry has no experience doing that. Four candidates do. DEI hire.
What competing interests need to be managed ?
Thomas Bach did not manage any competing interests.
Coventry is better because she will be more empathetic to the needs of countries that aren't doing well at the Olympics due to lack of funding. She is more likely to ensure that funding actually goes to the athletes who need the funding instead of pot belly officials. IOC generates billions of $ yet athletes get none of it for training or medical cover. That is the issue that needs to be addressed.
The second issue that needs to be addressed is corruption. Coe will never address IOC corruption. He was Lamine Diack's vice president and did nothing to investigate the corruption that plagued world athletics during the Lamine Diack era.
Lamine Diack and his son lined their pockets… (Senegal)
Tedros Ghebreyesus head of the WHO… (Ethiopia)
New IOC President… (Zimbabwe), Thomas Bach (Germany) personal friend of Putin.
UN Secretary General/s Antonio Guterres (Portugal), Ban Ki Moon (Republic of Korea), Kofi Annan (Ghana), Boutros Boutros Gali (Egypt) Javier Perez de Cuellar (Peru)

My issue is that she is only 41 - some life experience and real scars would sure be helpful in a role like this.

People like you only mention DEI when the candidate is a minority or is a woman. In reality, most candidates for this position are not more qualified than Ms Coventry

You obviously don't know the meaning of "Systemic Doping"
Always loved the way Coe attacked the 800 distance. One interesting comment that stood out to me was fight before the paris Olympics when Coe was asked how he would defeat Jakob ingebritson if he was in the race. Coe said "I'm really not sure how I would tactically approach that matter"
Easy, he would dodge him like he did Ovett ! :-l
With all their accolades, they were in the same country and over the years I could count on two hands how many times they were in the same race.

That one data point makes you think there's no testing in the US. Even though everyone who follows the sport knows that we test. There's literally thousands of threads discussing doping and caught dopers in the US. So can the hyperbole.

“systemic”
Kenya - how many doping busts/infractions of middle and long distance runners? Answer: about 300 since 2015. 2 year, 4 year, 6 year bans.
Who has been and continues to be involved: Athletes, Coaches, Agents, Doctors, Pharmacists, drug dealers and their minions, the Kalenjin tribe, community members, Officials, NGO, local and National government. Some and sometimes all are involved by knowing, aiding and abetting and profiting. Add that all up and that almost encompasses and affects the entire country. Kenya is corrupt as h- - l.
Professional running is a major source of hard currency to the Kenyan economy. Make no mistake there are many involved, taking a piece of the pie, covering up, extorting
The Kenyan people know what going on and there is virtually no condemnation by Kenyan society when a runner gets popped. No reprisals, nada.
Some history for you: In August 2018 the first anti doping lab was set up in Nairobi Kenya. Previously, blood samples had to be flown to South Africa or Europe to be tested at an approved lab within 36 hours. The AIU initially collected 3500 blood samples for testing in 2017. The lab could handle 800 to 1000 samples a year from East African region.
The Nairobi lab belongs to the Lancet Heath Group and was paid for by the AIU and IAAF. In 2023 AIU and ADAK set a 5000 target to ramp up testing. In 2024 ADAK and Kenya’s National government complained they had no money and conveniently shut it down in July before the Paris Olympics.
Yes, if Mr. Coe we’re to do the right thing, due to not being hindered by his quest to be IOC president, those assets could be reallocated to go after, in a much more effective way, other East African country’s runners.
Part of Mr. Coes problematic run for the IOC presidency was he rivaled Thomas Bach’s attempts to bring Russia back into the Olympics. For all the right reasons as Mr. Putin continues to thumb his nose at the international athletics NGO’s that sanctioned Russia due State Sponsored Doping. That is why Mr. Bach (Friend of Mr. Putin) didn’t endorse Mr. Coe. Also, as stated before, Mr. Coe just like Mr. Pound, are honorable people that understand rule of law and governance and would have pushed back and routed the corruption that is… wait for it, “systemic” in the IOC.
