Not sure why people are downvoting this. If he doesn't race another 3000m today, there is no possible way he qualifies for the 3000m in Nanjing. I don't think European Champions get a wild card. Oh well, the sport and rules suck.
It’s reasonable to think Jakob simply does not want to race the 3k at the WIC. Obviously, if he’d wanted the standard he could have gotten it any time including today. Assuming he competes at all in China he’ll be doing more than any of the other “Big 4” in the 1500. Maybe best to focus on winning the 1500 after successfully doubling at Euros. Long outdoor season still ahead.
The big 4 are going to race 8 times from April to June. That’s also a lot of volume/intensity. I think Jakob missed a huge opportunity to complete a double at World Indoors, joining runners like Geb and El Guerrouj. He doesn’t have to race again until June. Oh well.

Exactly. He could probably win both as it is, but doesn't want to risk hindering the 1500 final with the 3000 the previous day. If the 3000 was after the 1500 final, I think he'd have gone for the standard.

Also, I think most people here will agree that he'd have an easier time winning the 3000 than the 1500 (though I haven't seen the entries). Of course, he just cares about the 1500. For him, winning the 3000 is just a nice extra, much like the 5000 outdoors.
People forget Jakob raced Euro Cross already too! He's going to Worlds and then will race DL and World Champs outdoors ,- he's the athlete we see the most of
Aregawi in the 3,000. He’s on a different level than anyone else IF he’s sharp but let’s bear in mind he was set to run the Seville Half and switched late. I’m hoping we see 7:21 Aregawi but no guarantees his finish and top-end will be there. I suspect we’ll see Mehary as the other Ethiopian but he’s probably a tier below Mills currently. There’s no indication any top Kenyans are in it.
In the 1500, it’s pretty thin. Cam Myers, Habz and Nader probably the top guys. Laros looked terrible today so it seems he lost a lot due to an illness. No indications any Kenyans will be in it either, as none have run indoors.
In his post race interview on Norwegian TV Jakob said he has organised tickets to fly to world indoors, but hasn't decided if he will compete yet. Follow up question was if he does decide to compete, will he be doing the double. Answered that that is also undecided, will go home now and make a decision this week. Sounded like he has a wild card to the 3000 if he wants it.

Generally yes but Aregawi and Mills are in better shape than his 1500 opposition, so maybe it’s a toss-up. He handled Mills pretty easily today, but it’s possible having Aregawi in there ups the challenge.

Yep, considering he only committed to WIC a few days ago, it's reasonable to conclude that he just doesn't care that much about it.
Great 800 final. I think Crestan was probably the biggest opposition standing in the way of Hoey getting gold in Nanjing. He ran a good race but he’s not in the same neighborhood of fitness yet.
