Important context for this: This was not something Newsom stated on his own accord. This is something he said during a friendly, 70-minute getting-to-know-you conversation with one of the most noxious conservative influencers in the country, Charlie Lil Bits. He allowed Lil Bits to spout off, offered essentially no pushback, substantive rebuttal, or real attacks of his own, and looked for every opportunity to find common ground. Soliciting advice on what Democrats should do... from far-right republicans. Genius! The trans sports thing was just the lowest-hanging fruit.
The Democratic base is starving for politicians who would jump at the opportunity bite Kirk's head off, and instead the Party's "leaders" are almost uniformly tripling down on the failed strategy of trying to play nice with Republicans (who HATE them) in order to appeal to the imaginary center. A party led by out-of-touch, amoral losers and wimps. Vote them out.
If you asked the leftwing automatons about this particular issue 10 years ago, almost none of them would support women in men's sports. Now of course they're all onboard. But now that their dear leaders have changed their position, funny, so will they. It'll just take a few years to de-program them.

People who were at absolutely no risk from COVID who were forced to get the shot or be fired and now dealing with vaccine injuries or PVS would disagree with your assessment.
