It’s rather funny, it looks like he enjoys messing around in the heats. He intentionally went out glacially slow, and then yes it looked like he was figuring out how to pass everyone with some clever inside moves. He is that much better that even had Keen protected the rail he would’ve been fine easily

The 1:42 man went to the front way too early. As possibly the fastest finisher he should have stayed close behind the front runners until the last lap.

I am always surprised how many tactical faults the runners make in these heats.
Fore example: Some of the slowest runners waste their energy by going to the front or near front in lane 2 or 3 falling back and coming forward again. See the Finnish runner, the Andorran?! AND Pieter Sisk.
The advisable thing to do for such runners is to stay relaxed at the rail until the best runners start to increase the speed in the end. And see if they (the slow ones) have something to shoot with at that time.
Amber Anning was probably the favorite for the 400m but she got a DQ for lane infringment in the heats.
Best would be to lead and make it slow. Centro won gold doing it.
