Did the Harvard coaches notice the error and ask for her to be let in before the entries from other teams were made public? That determines if there could be a competitive advantage.
Standard college coach behavior, assholes who will always put themselves ahead of the kids at the end of the day
SHE STILL GOT TO COMPETE IN THE RELAYS. It's not like they banned her from the meet entirely. These coaches are just doing their job and giving their athletes the best chance to win.
How would other coaches know if Harvard was putting her in their original intended event, or if the Harvard coaches analyzed the other team's entries (after they are publicly posted) then put Gorriaran in the event most favorable to her and the Harvard team?
Stop slandering other coaches and instead put the blame where it lies - Harvard's coaches.
Good post.
What about "the kids" who would have lost the meet because of bending the rules and accommodating one team's mistake.
If a football team sends too many men on the field, is the opposing coach supposed to decline the penalty and lose the game??
Play by the rules. Do your job. Don't expect special treatment.
You are wrong Weldon. If they allow a late entry this time, other coaches will game the system in the future.
Exactly.
What's to stop a coach from choosing to rest an athlete when they think their #2 can win, then changing that plan with the entries are released, claiming it was a "jUst A miSTakE"?

Sorry, but what evidence is there that the coaches "forgot" to put her in? She was always listed as part of the relay pools for the 4x4 and DMR (they switched her from the 4x4 to the 4x8 as an attempt to get more team points).
Another thread said the other coaches voted not to let her in. That seems kind of sleazy and not the spirit of competition the Ivy League was founded on.
dumb of her coach, and very petty of the other coaches that voted against.
...
Voting against her was the smartest thing the other coaches could have done. It's not their fault her coach did not enter her and it would have be foolish for them to most likely give 10 points to Harvard and take away possible points from their team.

Giving their athlete the chance to win on their own merit, not because another coach messed up an entry.
This whole thread is pointless. As is putting the blame on the other Ivy League Coaches. Too many variables involved in championship titles. Multiple scoring athletes from other teams were DQ’d for lane violations, including athletes from the winning team. Princeton ended up as the top team on the day despite everything. End of discussion.
To me, something hasn't felt right about his coaching of Gorriaran. This was an amazing talent who wanted to go to Harvard all along and who hasn't developed there. The dynamic in a filmed workout a while back didn't seem particularly good and now he has forgotten her in the entries for her main event, one of the stars of the team.

She was able to use those extra 2 minutes to cram for mid terms.

I'm sorry that people committed these violations, but glad they were caught. I've attended multiple conference championship meets and have really been struck by the multiple lane violations--most of which are not called.
Lotta this at meets in the Armory, in my experience.
Sort of like some Navy guy crying about a DQ in the Patriot League Championship in the women's DMR when his girl was in 2nd position for hand off and not impeded at all by BU kid who should have taken two steps into the first lane. They DQ'd BU but it didn't matter. Crybabies and first place runner ups!
This happened to a Pitt Athlete that was left off the entry for one of his better events in the Old Big East Conference and of course the other Coaches did not not let him run it. An Assistant Coach should check the entries and notify the Head Coach of any mistakes before their entries are made final. I preformed this function successfully as an Assistant Coach catching some errors.
