I mean yeah we can all be a little better. I’ve consistently budgeted since I was in my early 20’s. I remember being left with like 100 bucks weekly for any kind of leisure, which was abysmal for a guy in his early twenties working 50 hours a week. I haven’t ran the numbers for a single guy now making that wage, as now I’m doing quite well. but I there’s no way rent is going to fit in that equation. I was only paying 800/ month, those same places are at least double, smh.

A car is the thing that keeps most people broke. Most are not paid off, probably over 90%. That's insane. If they don't have a car and are broke, it's bad habits if theyre still broke, which may be trauma fueled and inevitable.

Now why do people let a car dictate their finances? It's fascinating They all act like they own em despite vast majority on a credit line. I think many are pressured and subconsciously obligated to project an image, living well above their means. That's why many idiots see a Car as a "status symbol," which is ironic since most are on a freaking line. They don't want to be see driving a beater to save money when they can overpay for a newer vehicle that they feel hood rich for whatever neighborhood they want to impress in. Thus they choose to live check to check rather than drive a beater around or have no car to jeep up with the Jones' in a rat race.

still, i think there are a few people who would go carless if public transportation were workable for all their needs.

i knew a restaurant cook who tried to ride a bike on a section of highway, to get to work by 6am or so. Of course, he got pulled over, because you can‘t ride a bike on high-speed, high-traffic roads. It‘s absolutely not allowed, and they don‘t care if you‘ve got a job to get to.

although I agree with you regarding cars being massive money pits, I do want to mention that those econo-cars are like tin cans and can’t protect you like the luxury brands in the case of an accident.
