Hackman was one of my favorite actors. Really an incredible guy.
Reports say he, his wife, and dog were all found dead in their home.
Initial report from authorities claimed "no foul play is suspected". Outside of a gas leak or something, I doubt the dog would agree.
Yeah this one sadly feels a little off. Inadvertent carbon monoxide poisoning? But old rover meeting his maker at what appears to be the same time - hard to believe it was all coincidental natural causes.
He's a big enough name where I guess the situation will get the veil of secrecy. She was only 63 though, damn.
There were no signs of a gas leak or carbon monoxide poisoning. maybe she killed herself as she was surrounded by pills.. He wondered around and fell and couldn't get up. the dog was in a kennel and died of starvation.
Authorities found the actor was in a mudroom near his cane, appearing to have fallen, while wife Arakawa, 64, was found in an open bathroom near a space heater, according to the warrant.
An open prescription bottle and pills were scattered on the nearby countertop, the warrant says.
According to investigators, the scene was "suspicious enough in nature to require a thorough search and investigation" after several things were found at the scene, including the front door open and unlocked, a healthy dog "running loose on the property," another "healthy dog" found near Arakawa and the dead dog and moved heater found near the actor's wife.
They also cited an open pill bottle and scattered prescription pills next to Arakawa as well as no obvious signs of a gas leak and Hackman being in a different room than his wife.

Hackman died of natural causes (he was 95 after all). His wife found him, was devastated, decided she could not go on without him, and chose suicide by pills. To make sure the pills would work she gave some pills to the dog first (just like Hitler did before taking the cyanide). When the dog died, she then took the pills.
This would explain all three deaths without any gas involvement. I could be completely wrong, of course, but we will know in due time.
95 is a good, long life, but it still is very suspicious. It's either homicide of all three (the dog, wife, and Gene), or a murder-suicide, or CO poisoning.

How does your theory explain the front door being open and unlocked?

My theory: Suicide pact staged to look like an Agatha Christie mystery. Wife was diagnosed with a terminal illness and Hackman came to the conclusion that 95 years was enough for him. They decided to exit together but wanted the scene to have the appearance of a whodunit. After all, he was a professional actor for 50 years.

He is a man with plenty of money. My guess is he lived in an exclusive area where he probably knows most of his neighbors and trusts them. There are still communities like this. Also, my guess without knowing anything about his property is that his front door opened to nothing more than his front yard. I highly doubt his front door opened onto the street. He probably had a security fence around the property in which case leaving the door unlocked might be a normal thing. Again, I know nothing about his property so this is just a guess.
Did someone want their inheritance early? And without it going to the 2nd wife. Aka, his kids were with Gene's first wife. That's a theory. Hit man.
See if his kids needed money/were in financial straits for some reason, like bad investments, or drugs/alcohol.

per a podcast I heard this morning, Gene Hackman's daughter didn't want to do an autopsy on her deceased, 95-year-old dad. *with these suspicious circumstances* Red flag!!! They're going to do one anyway - which could take 3 months - I'm not sure if that includes the toxicology as well, but that sounds like quite a backlog.
Sounds like someone wants their inheritance, no questions asked. Highly suspicious, imo. conveniently, the 2nd wife is out of the picture. I still vote hitman.
things can get very ugly with 2nd marriages & inheritance. heck, things can get ugly just with 1st marriages.
The fact that they weren't heard from in weeks, and the pest control guy (or landscaper?) was the one who called it in - odd. someone at that age, 95, needs to be checked on regularly. Plus, his wife (she was younger than Gene, but not a spring chicken) wasn't checked on either.
You could argue that they wanted as much decomp as possible on the bodies. Esp. b/c there was something like (or at least I heard) the wife was found in the bathroom next to a space heater. Not sure if it was turned on, but if it was... okay, I'm obsessing about this. I just wonder if it's greedy kids wanting to get their inheritance. His house was worth 3 million. Just that alone.
